The Water Street Players Proudly Present: She Kills Monsters

Severn School’s upcoming production of She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen invites audiences into a world where dragons, warriors, and mythical creatures help tell a deeply human story.
Written in 2010, She Kills Monsters draws inspiration from Nguyen’s own experiences as a self-described “teenage geek who loved D&D” (Dungeons & Dragons). While the play is filled with fantastical creatures, epic battles, and plenty of adventure, its heart lies in themes that resonate far beyond the gaming table: identity, grief, inclusion, and the journey of discovering who we are and who we want to become.

The story follows Agnes Evans, a high school student in Athens, Ohio, who is grieving the loss of her younger sister, Tilly. In an effort to reconnect with her sister and better understand the person she was, Agnes enters the imaginative world of Dungeons & Dragons that Tilly created. Through this adventure, she discovers unexpected truths about her sister, herself, and the importance of embracing others for who they truly are.

Featuring a talented cast and imaginative staging, She Kills Monsters has given Severn’s students the opportunity to explore their creativity and take on new theatrical challenges. From bringing dragons, gelatinous cubes, killer eyeballs, and other fantastical creatures to life to learning specialized fight choreography, the cast and crew have embraced every aspect of the production. Students have also trained with stage swords and other theatrical weapons to safely bring the play’s epic battles to the stage.

We invite you to join us for an unforgettable theatrical experience.
