Our School
Severn School is located approximately six miles from Annapolis on two separate campuses in Arnold and Severna Park, Maryland. Severn School was originally founded in 1914 to provide academic preparation for the United States Naval Academy. Today we are a day school enrolling almost 850 students from preschool through 12th grade.
Accreditation
Severn School is accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools (AIMS) and approved by the Maryland State Board of Education. Severn is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
Campus
Situated on two campuses, Severn School has state of the art facilities to meet the needs of all students. The 4-acre Chesapeake Campus in Arnold houses grades preschool through grade 5. Included on that campus are the Flinchum Gymnasium, Pat Troy Media Center, and Louise Sivvy Theatre. There are two fully equipped outdoor playgrounds, an outdoor science learning area, learning pavilion, and trike and scooter paths for early childhood students.
The 19-acre Teel campus in the heart of Severna Park includes the McCleary Student Center, Price Auditorium, Creeden Hall, four athletic fields (including two turf fields), Memorial Gymnasium, and the Edward St. John Athletic Center. The most recent addition is the beautiful Teel Academic Center which is a state-of-the-art facility housing the Zimmerman Library,
Graw Innovation Center, and the Hoehn-Saric Center for Academic Excellence.
The Stine Environmental Center is a 2-acre outdoor learning center situated on the Severn River behind Teel Campus.

There are 125 teaching faculty of which 72 (58%) hold an advanced degree (masters & doctorate).
We have 68 administrators and staff members, 117 women and 53 men.
The Upper School (grades 9-12) is led by Steve Soden.
The Middle School (grades 6-12) is led by Dan Keller.
The Lower School (grades PS-5) is led by Cathy North.
Students
There are 884 students in grades PS through 12 for the 21-22 school year.

Our student to teacher ratio is 10-to-1.
The average class size is 14.
100% of graduates attend a college or university.
Athletics
We have 46 athletic teams including cross-country, field hockey, football, tennis, soccer, basketball, swimming, wrestling and lacrosse. We have four athletic fields.

While admission is selective, qualified students are admitted without regard to race, creed, color, sex, or national origin.
Financial Aid
For the 2020-2021 school year, Severn awarded nearly $3 million in financial aid to students from both low and middle-income families.
