    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)
  • Tuition Remission

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School. 
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors.

    Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

  • Buildings & Grounds Department

    Job Title:   Buildings and Grounds Team Member

    Reports To:  Director of Business and Finance

    Description of Role:  Candidate’s main responsibility, as a member of the Buildings and Grounds Department, is to help maintain a safe and clean campus for Severn’s Students, employees and visitors. Severn’s 22-acre campus includes three academic buildings, an Alumni Affairs/Development Building, a sports complex, four athletic fields, parking lots and eight residential houses.  

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  Opening and closing of buildings; Maintain HV/AC systems; Maintain buildings and residences to include minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting; Maintain grounds to include: picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping sidewalks and cleaning entryway glasses; Deliver packages; clean and fill buses with gas and other fluids.

    Other Duties:  Set-up and facilitate events such as: Assemblies, Homecoming Weekend, Alumni Weekend, Open House, Productions and Graduation.
    Seasonal Duties: Clean gutters and downspouts; Blow and rake leaves; Maintaining flower beds, bushes and trees; Remove snow and salt walkways.

    Qualifications:  Candidate must pass background check.  Must be able to perform the following tasks:  Climb ladders; Work with gas/electric powered tools; Drive a pickup; Drive an activity bus; Operate utility vehicles.

  • Director of Gift Management & Advancement Services

    Reports To: Director of Development

    Description of Role: The role is responsible for managing the advancement department’s record keeping within the fundraising database (Raiser’s Edge.) Provide guidance and management of all gift acceptance and processing activities following IRS and industry guidelines. This role is part of a larger integrated team fundraising for Severn School.
     
    The role is a full-time, 12-month position and is benefit eligible. General hours are M-F, 8:00am-4:30 pm. A few evening events will be required.
     
    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    Gift Processing: 
    • Record and manage all pledge documents, reminders, and reports for capital pledges.  
    • Manage all matching gift documentation and process recurring gifts and pledge records.
    • Process and manage all stock gifts.
    • Generate Annual Fund, Capital & Endowment report, Annual Report, and other financial reports and generate all donor acknowledgment and gift in kind letters.
    • Manage external relationships with Foundations, Matching gift companies & IATS payment gateways.
    Business Office:
    • Liaison with the Business office for banking deposits, credit card statements, and fund management
    • Reconcile all reports, month-end figures, and funds.
    • Supply Auditors with the documentation needed for yearend audit.
    • Supply financial reports to the Director of Business when requested.
    Database/RE
    • Create, manage, and produce financial reports
    • Verifying and updating donor information from gift envelopes and online forms
    • Assisting with queries and segmentations for solicitation mailings.
    Stewardship:
    • Steward and communicate to donors regarding gift concerns, needs, and/or assistance
    • Process all honor/memorial donations, acknowledgments, and reports.
    • Generate donor-useful documents, pledge reminders, payment options, and yearend charitable tax statements.
    Events Management:
    • Manage registration and sponsorships for the APA Annual Auction. 
    • Coordinate and manage all check-in/check-out credit card processing with PCI-compliant procedures.  
    • Manage all registrations and sponsorships for APA Golf Tournament.Work with Athletic Dept with organization and day of logistics.
    • Manage all registrations and donations to the Astle Endowment Fund. 
    • Manage and organize the Annual Welcome Back Bash, a friend-raising event for parents. Secure caterer, manage registrations and oversee general logistics of the event.
    • Assist the Development office with various events; Leadership Donor Dinner, Homecoming, Alumni Weekend, Founders/Veterans Day.
    Alumni Walkway
    • Process all Alumni Walkway brick orders and coordinate with Buildings and Grounds on the installation.

  • Lower School BASC Administrator

    Job Title:  Lower School Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator

    Supervisor:  Lower School Head

    Start Date:  August 2023

    General Summary:  Severn School is searching for a full time, 10-month Lower School Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator to begin August 2023.  Hours for the position are weekdays 10:00am-6:00pm with flexibility to work 8:00am-4:00pm during pre/post planning and professional development days.

    Essential Functions:  The candidate must manage all aspects of the Lower School before/after school care (BASC) program, including staffing, supervision of students, scheduling, budgeting, billing, programming, after-school clubs, purchasing snacks and supplies, communications, and day-to-day operations.  In addition, the candidate will assist the Summer Camp Director with organizing summer camp logistics as requested.

    Qualifications:  The ideal candidate has a natural, genuine joy of working with young children, knowledge of child care regulations, leadership skills to oversee the BASC program including collaborating with faculty and parents, is organized to maintain the many functions of the job, and has a BA or BS Degree in a related field.  Experience working in/directing an after-school program is preferred.

  • Lower School IT Support Coordinator and Technology Teacher

    Job Title:  Lower School IT Support Coordinator and Technology Teacher (12 month position)

    Supervisor:  Director of Technology

    Start Date:  Spring/Summer 2023 

    Essential Functions:  With the main role as the IT Support Coordinator, duties include working closely with Severn's Technology Director and Technology Team to provide help desk support for Lower School faculty and students. As a Lower School Technology Teacher, duties include creating and implementing engaging lessons that teach STEM topics and concepts, including, but not limited to, 3D printing, robotics, coding, and other STEM-related software. Collaboration with colleagues to provide students with cross-curricular connections to grade level units of study is essential. Overall, the combination of technical expertise and teaching experience is critical to the success in this role.

    Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have a college degree in computer science or related field experience, has strong problem-solving skills, ability to analyze, diagnose, and solve issues quickly and accurately, and independently research solutions.  Effective communication skills, particularly the ability to explain technical solutions in a way that is easily understood by non-technical individuals.  Working knowledge and basic network understanding including A/V equipment, SIS and/or LMS systems, Active Directory, O365 and Windows and Mac operating. Knowledge of JAMF, Apple Classroom, and Google Admin functions preferred. Teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level, and experience in "maker"/innovation lab setting with knowledge of 3D printing, robotics, coding, and other STEM-related software preferred.

  • Upper School Counselor

    Job Title:  Upper School Counselor

    General Summary:  Severn School is searching for a full time Upper School Counselor to begin in August of 2023.

    Essential Functions:  Primary duties include supporting the social, emotional, and psychological needs of 9th-12th graders through individual counseling, liaison work with outside mental health providers, and collaboration with families and colleagues on behalf of students. The role also involves teaching in the form of 9th grade Health and Wellness classes, leadership seminars for 10th-12th graders, and, for qualified candidates, academic classes, as well as club/extracurricular supervision and advisory. 

    Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will hold a Masters degree or higher in counseling or a related field, hold licensure or certification in counseling or a related field, and will have ample experience working with adolescents. Experience working in education or with school-based populations is preferred but not required. Candidates must be able to forge relationships easily, possess strong organizational and time management skills, and have a keen understanding of mental health concerns and adolescent development. A strong sense of collegiality and the ability to work closely with the other Upper School counselor are necessary.

Our Learning Never Stops

As a student-centered institution, Severn School believes that adults should model the qualities they wish to see in their students. We provide built-in professional development opportunities throughout the school year, support faculty travel to conferences, offer grants for personal and professional growth, and offer a robust line-up of summer PD classes taught by and for Severn faculty. Our hope is that faculty will engage frequently in professional development so as to remain nimble for change in our evolving world.
