    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)
  • Tuition Remission

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School. 
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors. 
  • Professional Development

    Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

  • Middle School Administrative Assistant

    Job Title: Middle School Administrative Assistant

    General Summary: Severn School is searching for a full-time Middle School Administrative Assistant to begin in July 2024.
     
    Essential Functions: The middle school administrative assistant supports the middle school head in the daily function of the school. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing administrative support to ensure efficient school operations, answering phone calls and supporting parent questions, managing the middle school head’s calendar and overall middle school calendar, preparing middle school faculty meetings, and working closely with other administrative staff, managing daily attendance and records, and presenting a positive and professional image for the middle school.
     
    Severn faculty and staff is a community of learners committed to ongoing professional development, reflection, collaboration, and collegiality, and a premium is placed on middle school education best practices, classroom cultures of thinking, and assessment for learning.
     
    Qualifications: The ideal candidate is highly organized and collaborative, enjoys working with middle school children, and has a respectful, approachable, and professional manner. Experience working in school and office administration support positions is highly preferable, but not a requirement.

  • Buildings & Grounds Department

    Job Title:   Buildings and Grounds Team Member

    Reports To:  Director of Business and Finance

    Description of Role:  Candidate’s main responsibility, as a member of the Buildings and Grounds Department, is to help maintain a safe and clean campus for Severn’s Students, employees and visitors. Severn’s 22-acre campus includes three academic buildings, an Alumni Affairs/Development Building, a sports complex, four athletic fields, parking lots and eight residential houses.  

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  Opening and closing of buildings; Maintain HV/AC systems; Maintain buildings and residences to include minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting; Maintain grounds to include: picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping sidewalks and cleaning entryway glasses; Deliver packages; clean and fill buses with gas and other fluids.

    Other Duties:  Set-up and facilitate events such as: Assemblies, Homecoming Weekend, Alumni Weekend, Open House, Productions and Graduation.
    Seasonal Duties: Clean gutters and downspouts; Blow and rake leaves; Maintaining flower beds, bushes and trees; Remove snow and salt walkways.

    Qualifications:  Candidate must pass background check.  Must be able to perform the following tasks:  Climb ladders; Work with gas/electric powered tools; Drive a pickup; Drive an activity bus; Operate utility vehicles.

  • Lower School Before and After Care (BASC) Administrator

    Job Title:  Lower School Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator

    Supervisor:  Lower School Head

    Start Date:  August 2024

    General Summary:  Severn School is searching for a full time, 10-month Lower School Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator to begin August 2024.  Hours for the position are weekdays 10:00am-6:00pm with flexibility to work 8:00am-4:00pm during pre/post planning and professional development days.

    Essential Functions:  The candidate must manage all aspects of the Lower School before/after school care (BASC) program, including staffing, supervision of students, scheduling, budgeting, billing, programming, after-school clubs, purchasing snacks and supplies, communications, and day-to-day operations.  In addition, the candidate will assist the Summer Camp Director with organizing summer camp logistics as requested.

    Qualifications:  The ideal candidate has a natural, genuine joy of working with young children, knowledge of child care regulations, leadership skills to oversee the BASC program including collaborating with faculty and parents, is organized to maintain the many functions of the job, and has a BA or BS Degree in a related field.  Experience working in/directing an after-school program is preferred.

  • Lower School Nurse

    Job Title:  Lower School Nurse 
     
    Supervisor: Director of Business and Finance 
     
    General Summary:  Severn School is searching for a full-time Lower School Nurse to begin in August of 2024.
     
    Essential Functions:  The Lower School nurse will oversee and maintain the health room to provide care for students and faculty.  The nurse is responsible for maintaining a health log and student health and information.  The nurse will serve as a liaison between faculty and parents pertaining to allergies, medication and students who are ill or injured.  The nurse will also collaborate with and teach the Health and Wellness Curriculum to students in fourth and fifth grades.
     
    Qualifications:  Registered nurse with a current license in Maryland, Delegating nurse Certification, and at least 3 years experience in a school and/or health setting are required. A Bachelor in Science in Nursing is preferred.  Current CPR and First Aid certification are required.  Excellent communication and organization skills are needed to triage, maintain confidentiality, and communicate with necessary stakeholders.

    Qualifications:  The ideal candidate can teach a variety of Middle School Science courses, will have a strong educational background with a degree in a related field, and will possess a steadfast commitment to the life of the school beyond the classroom, and a profound, genuine joy and commitment to teaching middle school students. Athletic coaching experience and previous middle school teaching experience are preferred but not required.

    Essential Functions: Instruction at Severn starts with relationships and emphasizes the importance of understanding, connections, and teamwork in order to create a learning environment that promotes both achievement and inclusivity. The long-term chemistry sub will teach three sections of Honors Chemistry and one section of AP Chemistry.
    Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background with a degree in a related field. Experience with the AP Chemistry curriculum is preferred but not required. We provide built-in professional development opportunities throughout the school year, support faculty travel to conferences, offer grants for personal and professional growth, and offer a robust line-up of summer PD classes taught by and for Severn faculty.
