Summer at Severn Chesapeake Camps are a magical mix of creativity, learning, and adventure for children entering preschool through 5th grade.

Get Ready for the Best Summer Ever

Our week-long sessions are led by nurturing Severn School teachers, alumni and student counselors who know just the right moment to give an epic air-high five or an encouraging cheer. Chesapeake campers love to try new things, giggle with friends and squeeze the most fun possible out of each and every day!

Day Camps

Day Camps run from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Little Admirals, preschool - prekindergarten (age 3.5-5) Maryland state regulations require that campers are 3 years and 6 months to be enrolled in camp.
  • Blue Crabs - Kindergarten
  • Terps - First grade
  • Orioles - Second grade
  • Rockfish - Third grade
  • Osprey - Fourth and Fifth grade

  • Week 1 (June 24-28): Beach Bash

    June 24-28, 2024 (Rising Preschool-Grade 5)
    Get ready for some fun in the sun as we learn about beach safety, ocean conservation, and enjoy beach-themed games and activities. Grab your hat and sunscreen for a week to remember! 
  • Week 2 (July 1-5): Maryland, the State that I Love

    July 1-5, 2024 (Rising Preschool - Grade 5)
    This week we will dive into all things Maryland, the state flag, bird, flower and so much more! Get ready to take a journey through the state known for fishing, blue crabs, and the Chesapeake Bay. You will be sure to learn some new fun facts along the way!

    ( Camp will not be held on July 4 in observance of the holiday* )
    *Week 2 camp will be at a reduced rate, due to no camp on July 4. 
  • Week 3 (July 8-12): Global Explorers

    July 8-12, 2024 (Rising Preschool - Grade 5)
    Join us for a week of global travel as we learn about different cultures and countries around the world! Campers will participate in cultural workshops and games, and learn about famous landmarks and traditions. Passports not required!
  • Week 4 (July 15-19): Down on the Farm

    July 15-19, 2024 (Rising Preschool - Grade 5)
    Get ready for some farm fun! During this week, we will experience the fun of life on a farm, learning about animals, gardening, and farm life. The possibilities are endless as campers learn about teamwork and environmental stewardship.
  • Week 5 (July 22-26): STEAM

    July 22-26, 2024 (Rising Preschool - Grade 5)
    With STEAM programs becoming more prevalent throughout school systems across the country, join us for a week of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics! Have your camper learn the importance of each subject and how they use each of them in their everyday lives.

Chesapeake Specialty Camps

ALL CHESAPEAKE SPECIALTY CAMPS ARE FULL.

All Specialty Camps are full-day sessions from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Age limits vary per camp, please see the descriptions at right for details.

  • Week 1: Clay All Day (Rising K-Grade 2)

    Dates: June 24-28, 2024
    Ages: Rising Kindergarten - Grade 2
    Instructor: Mrs. Friedman

    Clay all day with Mrs. Friedman! If you like to make original sculptures out of clay this camp is for you. Little artists will make several imaginative pieces which will be glazed and fired in bright colors.  

    Cap at 15 students. 
  • Week 2: Clay All Day (Rising Grades 3-5)

    Dates: July 1-5, 2024*
    Ages: Rising Grade 3- Grade 5
    Instructor: Mrs. Friedman

  • Week 3: Camp Flix (Filmmaking)

    Dates: July 8-12, 2024
    Ages: Rising Grade 4 - Grade 5
    Instructors: Mrs. Manicchia and Ms. Peacock

    During this week campers will explore elements of filmmaking. This includes a chance to develop skills on writing scripts, filming, editing, and film history and techniques. At the end of the week students will present their work in a short film fest.

    Cap at 20 students. 
  • Week 3: Hip Hop Dance Camp

    Dates: July 8-12, 2024
    Ages: Rising Grade K - Grade 2
    Instructor: Mrs. King

    Join us this summer for summer hip-hop camp!  Camp days will include LOTS of dancing to high-energy (and age-appropriate) music that will appeal to all our campers, who will be introduced to movement influenced by many of the choreographers seen on music videos and in movies, bringing the original movement and music from pop culture right into the Severn studio.  We will work on all aspects of successful dance training such as warming up, flexibility, rhythm, basic fundamental movement, style, and choreography. At the conclusion of camp, dancers will perform a showcase of what they have learned throughout the week for friends and family to enjoy!

  • Week 4: Paint Until You Faint

    Dates: July 15-19, 2024
    Times: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
    Ages: Rising Grades K - 2
    Instructor: Jonnie Friedman

    The Severn School summer painting camp is perfect for the child who loves all kinds of paint.  Children will use watercolor, tempera, and acrylic paints.  They will use paper, canvas, cardboard, and wood as a base for projects.  Classes will be held inside as well as out in the open air.  This imaginative week will focus on the basics of color theory while allowing students to explore their own creativity.

  • Week 5: Shutterbug

    Dates: July 22-26, 2024
    Ages: Rising Grade 4 - Grade 5
    Instructor: Ms. Cranford

    Campers will learn about camera operation, photo composition, and editing techniques while working on a variety of indoor and outdoor photography projects. At the conclusion of the club, each camper will take the week's photos home on a flash drive. 

    Cameras and all necessary equipment will be provided.

    May I bring my own camera?

    We will be using a few different types of cameras throughout the week, and we have enough for all campers.  However, if anyone has their own camera they wish to use, they may certainly bring it in, and they may use it when/if/as appropriate.  If your child does bring a camera to school, please clearly label the camera and any accessories with your child's full name or initials.  Registration for this camp indicates acknowledgement of the following:

    •   Severn School is not responsible for damage or loss.
    •   Any accompanying memory cards, batteries/chargers, and cords must be sent in along with the camera.
    •   Campers will need to leave their cameras and other items with Ms. Cranford for the week.
    •   Only your child (and the teacher, as needed) will be able to use their camera.  No other campers will be allowed to use their camera.

  • Week 5: Curtains Up (Musical Theater)

    Dates: July 22-26, 2024
    Ages: Rising Grade 2 - Grade 5
    Instructor: Ms. Peacock

    During this week campers will learn to sing, dance, and act to selections from Broadway musicals. At the end of the week students will present what they've been working on with a showcase for family and friends.

    Cap at 16 students. 

Jumpstart Academic Camps

Ready to get a jump on learning and fun? Check out our Jumpstart Academic Camps for rising kindergarten through 5th grade! Each Jumpstart will give campers an opportunity to brush up on their reading, writing, and math skills. Third through fifth-grade classes will begin reading the required Severn summer reading book.

All Jumpstart camps are half-day sessions from 9 a.m. - 12 Noon, Monday through Friday. Jumpstart Camp registration fee is $245. If your Jumpstart camper would like to spend the full day with us, they are welcome to sign up and join the traditional day camps for their afternoon activities (for an additional fee).

Before & After Care

We offer before and after care run by our expert staff through the Extended Care program. Registration is available for morning, afternoon, or both. A limited number of drop-in spaces will be available, payable on a daily basis.

Morning hours: 7:30 - 9:00 am

Cost/wk: $45
Drop-in: $15

Afternoon hours: 3:00 - 5:30 pm

Cost/wk: $75
Drop-in: $20

If not preregistered, campers who are brought to camp 15 minutes early or left 15 minutes after camp will be entered into the Extended Care program and parents will be billed at the drop-in rate listed above. The program ends promptly at 5:30 pm. If campers are not picked up at 5:30, parents will be billed an additional late fee of $40 per quarter hour thereafter. Families must preregister and prepay for the Before & After Care plans.

  • Do campers spend time outside?

    Yes! It is important for all children to be active and outside each day. Campers will have free time on our playground and sports fields several times a day. Many themed activities and games will be conducted outside, weather permitting.
  • What does a typical schedule look like for day campers?

  • Will there be swimming at camp this year?

    We are not currently offering swimming as part of our roster of camp activities. Should that change, we will update our campers and their families with new information.
  • What should my child wear and bring to camp?

    Campers should bring:
    No open-toed shoes permitted. Please include your camper’s name on all items brought to camp.
