Severn Sailing Makes History by Capturing Two National Championships in Same Season

After claiming the 2026 Baker Trophy in May, the Severn Sailing team capped off a stellar season by capturing the ISSA Fleet Race National Championship.
This marks the first time in school history that the team has won both the Baker and Mallory National Championships in the same season.

Led by Coach Sitzmann, Coach Alexander, and Coach Davids, the team notched this final team win of the year in New Orleans on May 30-31. The top 20 high school teams in the nation were invited to compete in this 2-day regatta on Lake Pontchartrain.

Severn entered the second day of competition in third place, sitting close behind the teams holding the top two positions. In the end, it was the Admirals’ consistent performance that won the day and led Severn to its second national championship of the 2025-26 racing season.

Special congratulations to the four seniors who competed in the fleet race on May 30-31: Alex Baker, Charlotte MacDonald, Annie Sitzmann, and Annabelle Ulak. Due to the timing of this national race, they were unable to participate in the Class of 2026 commencement exercises that were held on May 29. Instead, they donned caps and gowns early and participated in a brief ceremony on May 26, at the end of the final academic assembly of the school year.

Congratulations to Severn Sailing on an incredible season.
