Chesapeake Camps

Get Ready for the Best Summer Ever

Summer at Severn Chesapeake Camps are a magical mix of creativity, learning, and adventure for children entering preschool through 5th grade. Our week-long sessions are led by nurturing Severn School teachers, alumni and student counselors who know just the right moment to give an epic air-high five or an encouraging cheer. Chesapeake campers love to try new things, giggle with friends and squeeze the most fun possible out of each and every day!

Day Camps

Day Camps run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. All camps are $300/week.

When registering, select the camp that reflects the grade your child will enter in the fall of 2021. 
  • Little Admirals, preschool - prekindergarten (age 3.5-5) Maryland state regulations require that campers are 3 years and 6 months to be enrolled in camp.
  • Blue Crabs - kindergarten
  • Terps - 1st grade
  • Orioles - 2nd grade
  • Rockfish - 3rd grade
  • Osprey - 4th & 5th grade

  • Week 1: Undersea Adventures Await

    June 21-25, 2021
    Dive into the world of marine life as we explore unique creatures from far-reaching depths of the world’s oceans. Campers will learn about the mysteries of the deepest darkest blue through interactive games, creative crafts, and...science! If the watery depths set your little one’s imagination spinning, Undersea Adventures Await!
  • Week 2: Full STEAM Ahead

    June 28-July 2, 2021
    Calling all inventors, designers, engineers and coders! Does your camper like taking things apart and putting them back together? Do they have an eye for design that makes you stop and do a double-take? Join us as we go full STEAM ahead with innovation and creativity!
  • Week 3: To the Moon and Beyond

    July 5-9, 2021
    Blast into the farthest reaches of outer space on a summer camp shuttle of adventures unknown! Through games, art and out of this world activities, campers will learn all about our solar system and the great mysteries within. Prepare your imaginations for a spectacular week . . . future astronauts, let’s goooo!
  • Week 4: All Aboard the USS Severn

    July 12-16, 2021
    Hop aboard and help us navigate the seven seas for a week full of global adventure! Campers will sail around the world to explore different cultures, practice geography skills, and have a ton of fun along the way. Get your passports ready!
  • Week 5: Camp Going Green!

    July 19-23, 2021
    Every day is earth day at Camp Going Green! Campers will have a blast learning how to reduce, reuse and recycle their way toward creating a healthier world now and for the future.
  • Week 6: Summer Olympic Games 2021

    July 26-30, 2021
    Let the games begin! Campers will learn all about the history and culture surrounding this international, multi-sport event and participate in a mini-version of the summer games right here on Chesapeake Campus!


Chesapeake Specialty Camps

All Specialty Camps are full-day sessions from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. All camps are $300/week.

  • Week 1: Fabulous Fiesta!

    Dates: June 21-25, 2021
    Ages: rising 3rd-5th
    Instructor: Ms. Longway
    Bienvenidos a Latinoamérica! Join us on a journey through Latin America! With our Ms. Longway, middle school Spanish language teacher, leading the crew, campers will learn lively and energetic dances, produce authentic arts and crafts, and explore the history through enchanting folklore and stories. We will also learn a little Spanish through our engaging week of learning and discovery! Grab your maleta and vámonos!
  • Week 1: Folktales and Fairy Tales

    Dates: June 21-25, 2021
    Ages: preschool- kindergarten
    Instructor: Ms. Spears
    Campers will bring classic tales to life by exploring storytelling through art, games, and imaginary play worthy of kings and queens! We will read the stories of Cinderella, Jack in the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Get ready to travel to a time long ago and a land far, far away!
  • Week 1: Hip Hop Camp

    Dates: June 21-25, 2021
    Ages: rising kindergarten - 2nd
    Instructor: Ms. King
    Campers will dance their way through summer with high-energy, age-appropriate music and moves influenced by many choreographers seen in pop culture today. We will train like the pros do with exercises in warming up, flexibility, rhythm, movement fundamentals, style, choreography, and even costuming and make up! Strut your stuff during the showcase at the end of camp! Family and friends will be invited, Covid restrictions permitting.
  • Week 1: Shutterbug Camp

    Dates: June 21-25, 2021
    Ages: rising 3rd-5th
    Instructor: Ms. Cranford
    Campers will learn about camera operation, photo composition, and editing techniques while working on a variety of indoor and outdoor photography projects. At the conclusion of the club, each camper will take the week's photos home on a flash drive.  

    May I bring my own camera? 
    Yes! Campers may bring cameras from home if they prefer. Registration for this camp indicates acknowledgement of the following:
    • Severn School is not responsible for damage or loss.
    • Accompanying memory cards, batteries/chargers, and cords must be sent in along with the camera.
    • Campers will need to leave their cameras and other items with Ms. Cranford for the week. All items will be stored in a secure location.
  • Week 2: Fabulous Fiesta! II

    Ages: rising kindergarten-2nd
    Instructor: Ms. Longway

  • Week 2: Hip Hop Camp II

    Dates: June 28-July 2, 2021
    Ages: rising 3rd-5th
    Instructor: Ms. King 
    Join us this summer for Hip Hop & Tik Tok Camp!  Campers will dance their way through an awesome week learning the fundamentals of hip hop set to their favorite pop tunes. We'll train like the pros with stretching, foundational steps, musicality, and choreography .  . . and for some extra fun, we'll get inspiration from the ever-popular app, Tik Tok! Campers will have the opportunity to learn popular choreography showcased on the app and will even get to create and perform their own Tik Tok choreography!  All music and dances will be reviewed and confirmed to be age appropriate for all of our campers. Nothing will be posted to social media; instead, we will showcase our dances at the week-end performance! Family and friends will be invited, Covid restrictions permitting.
  • Week 3: Clay all Day

    Dates: July 5-9, 2021
    Ages: rising 2nd-5th
    Instructor: Ms. Friedman
    A camper favorite every summer! Little artists and aspiring potters will pinch, roll, pull and paint a variety of clay projects. They will explore functional and abstract ceramic art. This is a great opportunity for expanding the imagination while developing fine motor skills. We provide aprons to use for the week, but pottery can be messy, so dress for a day in the studio! Finished works of art will be available to pick the following week.
  • Week 4: Art Around the World

    Dates: July 12-16, 2021
    Ages: rising 2nd-5th
    Instructor: Ms. Friedman
    Campers will explore art as an expression of culture and history, traveling to a different location each day. Through studying famous works of art, they will learn about style, composition, and the artists themselves. They will then use a variety of media to recreate their own piece inspired by art around the world!
  • Week 5: Paint ‘Til You Faint

    Dates: July 19-23
    Ages: rising 2nd-5th
    Instructor: Ms. Friedman
    We all like to paint on paper and canvas but have you ever painted on rocks, wood or even sandpaper?! Campers will use brushes, sticks, spray bottles, fingers and more to make their painterly masterpieces and let their creativity shine.  Dress for mess and get ready to splat and splatter, paint and play!
 

Jumpstart Academic Camps

Ready to get a jump on learning and fun? Check out our Jumpstart Academic Camps for rising kindergarten through 5th grade! Each Jumpstart will give campers an opportunity to brush up on their reading, writing, and math skills. Third through fifth-grade classes will begin reading the required Severn summer reading book.

All Jumpstart camps are half-day sessions from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, Monday through Friday. All camps are $200/week. If your Jumpstart camper would like to spend the full day with us, they are welcome to sign up and join the traditional day camps for their afternoon activities. ($100 additional fee)

Info and FAQs

Before and After Care

We offer before and after care run by our expert staff through the Extended Care program. Registration is available for morning, afternoon, or both. A limited number of drop-in spaces will be available, payable on a daily basis.

Morning hours: 7:30 - 9:00 am
Cost: $45/week
Drop-in: $12

Afternoon hours: 3:00 - 5:30 pm
Cost: $75/week
Drop-in: $20/day

If not preregistered, campers who are brought to camp 15 minutes early or left 15 minutes after camp will be entered into the Extended Care program and parents will be billed at the drop-in rate listed above. The program ends promptly at 5:30 pm. If campers are not picked up at 5:30, parents will be billed an additional late fee of $40 per quarter hour thereafter. Families must preregister and prepay for the Before & After Care plans.

  • Do campers spend time outside?

    Yes! It is important for all children to be active and outside each day. Campers will have free time on our playground and sports fields several times a day. Many themed activities and games will be conducted outside, weather permitting.
  • What does a typical schedule look like for day campers?

  • Will there be swimming at camp this year?

    Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are not currently offering swimming as part of our roster of camp activities. Should that change, we will update our campers and their families with new information.
  • What should my child wear and bring to camp?

    Campers should bring:
    No open-toed shoes permitted. Please include your camper’s name on all items brought to camp.
