Why is There a Two-Hour Delay? Behind the Scenes at a Full Faculty Meeting
For students and parents, our regular all school meetings mean a two-hour delay and a break from normal morning routines. But for Severn faculty, they are an opportunity for growth and innovation, providing time outside of our normal schedules to bounce ideas off one another, plan events and evaluate the flow of curriculum from Lower to Middle to Upper School. We are one school made of many voices and these two hour meetings bring those voices together to inspire and learn from one another.
Each Meeting is Different, the Goals Are the Same
With over 100 faculty and staff members spread across two campuses, it can be a challenge to maintain a collaborative sense of community as the momentum of the school year takes on a life of its own. Because operating as one school is a priority, these meetings are essential. Our teachers share the work they are doing in class, highlight student accomplishments and meet in breakout sessions to work in small groups or one-on-one.
Head of School Doug Lagarde introduces our recent Lower School cross-curricular event with visiting author Karen Williams.
Upper and Middle school foreign language teachers Ms. Liz Cambell and Mr. George Yost discuss effective curricular transitions from MS to US.
Upper and Middle School English faculty Ms. Sandy Sanders, Mr. Dan Keller, Mr. Daryl Walsh, Mr. Joe Christie and Ms. Laura Drossner discuss vocabulary building and strengthening the transition from MS to US.
Better Together
On both campuses, our experienced teachers, coaches, and learning specialists form close bonds with their students, creating a close-knit support network for each learner at Severn. At these meetings, our teachers share with one another successes and challenges, creating a better experience for our students as they move from grade to grade, campus to campus. Nurturing these professional relationships is an important part of our mission to know and value every member of our community, students, teachers and staff alike.
