Nashville Hip and Severn Strong

Our annual APA Admiral Auction brings together parents, alumni, staff and friends for a special night of fun and fundraising — this single event funds all APA-sponsored extracurricular activities at Severn in addition to teacher wish-list items at the end of the year. While early March rain showers fell outside, our hardworking auction committee transformed the Edward St. John Athletic center into a hip night out in Nashville filled with laughter, toe-tapping music, and a fantastic array of donated items (with plenty of bids to take them home!). Together, we raised over $100,000 for the kids!
The Nashville theme brought southern charm to the room with bistro lights, boots, guitars and colorful flowers, while a live band, delicious food and a casual atmosphere allowed guests to lounge, sip, bid and chat. Nine live auction items including a fabulous trip to Nashville with airline tickets and dinner at Jason Aldean's restaurant, a stunning vacation in St. John, a friends night out for 8 at Blackwall Barn and Lodge with a driver and champagne galore, a custom piece of artwork by Severn alumna Julia Deckman '03, and more were auctioned off by a lively and spirited auctioneer who challenged the crowd to raise their paddles high! In addition, more than 100 baskets of silent auction items provided plenty of opportunity and variety for attendees to bid on anything from Away luggage, a gorgeous fire pit, and a college dorm essentials trunk, to jewelry, Dave Matthews concert tickets and outdoor adventure packages.

Where Does the Money Go?

Functions and activities that the APA supports:
  • Class parent socials for the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools
  • Teacher appreciation events on both campuses
  • Lower School student activities including the fall festival, Enchanted Evening Dance, and spirit days at athletic events
  • Middle School student activities including Innovation Day lunch, Dodgeball Madness, the spring social and the 8th-grade promotion reception
  • Upper School student activities including Hoops Madness, Boardwalk Blast, freshmen/sophomore dodgeball, the after-prom party, and the senior graduation reception
  • General school support including the Holiday Greens Workshop, arts and music receptions, hospitality events and volunteer recognition events
  • And more!
After these events are funded, any additional dollar amounts generated by the auction are used to support teacher wish lists including the following items purchased last year: Playaway audiobook packs, cork bulletin and magnetic whiteboards, two cameras for the Lower School Renaissance program, wireless microphones, new project tables, a Nord Stage keyboard, and outdoor picnic tables for both campuses. This single event supports every grade in our school, together.

We Couldn’t Do It Without You!

A huge thank you to our sponsors and advertisers — families and businesses alike — who supported the auction from set up through entertainment. A heartfelt thanks as well to all of our classroom basket coordinators who took the time to create an amazing array of class baskets that were the foundation of the silent auction. And finally, thank you to all of the volunteers who took the time to help in ways large and small, from running around to pick up donations and putting together baskets, to calling vendors and sponsors, welcoming new families, and completely transforming the gym into a beautiful night in Music City. We couldn't have done it without you!
