Varsity Girls Soccer Nets IAAM B-Conference Championship

The Varsity Girls Soccer team brought home the IAAM B-Conference Championship in an double OT thriller against Mount de Sales on November 2.
A top-shelf goal from senior captain Alaina Subong in the second overtime period secured the win for the Admirals, with a final score of 3-2.

After giving up two unanswered goals in the first half, the Admirals responded with goals by Lucy Ambro ’28 and Eliza Grace Beard ’26. Both teams went scoreless for the entire second half, and through the first overtime period.

“The entire game was a huge push,” said Subong in a post-game interview. “Every run in overtime especially, the thought process was to put it all out there because it could be your last run if you finish it.”

The Girls Soccer team was a contender for the crown in 2024 as well, winning the quarter and semifinal games, but ultimately losing by one goal to Maryvale in the championship. The squad’s last conference championship was in 2021.

This latest conference win wraps up a strong fall season for all five of Severn’s girls’ teams. Girls Tennis and Volleyball both came out on top in the IAAM C-Conference, and Field Hockey earned the #1 seed going into the playoffs after an undefeated season. The Admirals ultimately fell to perennial powerhouse John Carroll in the championship game. Girls Cross Country also went undefeated in the conference this fall at 7-0.
