The Water Street Players Proudly Present: Les Misérables
Based on Victor Hugo’s epic novel of the same name and set against the backdrop of 19th century Paris in the days leading up to the June Rebellion of 1832, Les Misérables follows the story of Jean Valjean, a man who is released from prison after serving nineteen years for a petty crime.
As he navigates an unforgiving world that will not welcome him back, he is pursued by the relentless police officer Javert who is determined to prove that criminals can never change. The show is about ordinary people who - in lots of different ways - stand in defiance against a judgmental and rigid social structure and power system.
“These are weighty themes and ideas, perhaps more important now than ever,” says Theatre Director Dr. Elizabeth Patterson. “And this company of young theatre artists have poured their hearts and souls into bringing this important story from the page to the stage.”
Les Misérables runs from Thursday, February 19- Saturday, February 21 with one show daily in Price Auditorium at 7 p.m.
The Water Street Players—Severn School's theater company—encourages the dynamic growth and deepened involvement of emerging young artists. With a renaissance spirit and quality programming, the company strives to entertain, engage, and challenge audiences through the art of theater.
