The Middle School Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, January 14. Twelve students, four from each grade level will compete to determine a school winner to represent Severn School at the county level. The competition will take place virtually during the school day. Following the competition, the winner will try to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee by competing in the Anne Arundel County Bee, usually held in late February or early March. County-level winners are invited to National Scripps Spelling Bee in late March or early April to compete for prizes in the amount of $30,000 for the overall champion, and between $2,000 and $12,500 for the five runners-up.
This informational session is presented for parents of Lower School students who are new to Severn this year. We will cover topics and events relating to the second half of the school year.
Zoom information will be shared in The Binnacle. We hope to see you there!
2020 was a tumultuous year that told the story of a racial reckoning in this country and a re-awakening of the social justice movement. Leading the charge are the youth of this country. Inspired by this renewed desire to create a just world that promotes understanding among its citizens, this year’s Unity Day strives to lean into the difficult conversations that were pushed to the surface by last year’s social unrest. After a pandemic year that brought us together in novel ways, Unity Day will uniquely bring the Severn Community together by using films to spark conversations, deliver moving visual imagery, and importantly, leave us feeling inspired and hopeful about the promise of a future that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.
