Why Should I Come to a Parent Coffee?
At the beginning of the school year on both Chesapeake and Teel campuses, we host Parent Coffees for every grade level. As a complement to our Back to School nights and other getting-to-know-you gatherings, our Parent Coffees provide a personalized forum to learn about grade-level specific topics from curriculum to dress code to upcoming programs. It’s a great way meet other parents and make sure your family has all the information you need for a happy and successful school year (and enjoy delicious coffee and treats!).
“Parent Coffees are wonderful opportunities for parents to come together to learn about curriculum and events specific to the given grade levels. Parents are invited to join their children in their classrooms to engage in a lesson following the grade level coffees. Our students love to share what is happening in their classrooms!”

“At our Coffee and Conversation sessions, parents have the opportunity to hear me explain the specific grade-level philosophy of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I explain how things are going in the Middle School broadly and the approaches that we take with student growth and school programs. I also outline and discuss whom parents should contact for the various concerns they might have regarding the Middle School. Our Dean of Students Mr. Eric Cole along with Middle School Counselor Ms. Mary Foard share their roles and responsibilities in the Middle School, including discipline, dress code, professional speakers and presentations as well as the role of counselor in a middle schooler's life.
We also share important dates for the year, and there is plenty of time to pause and and ask questions throughout and after the presentation."

** This special Parent Coffee is for current 5th Grade Lower School parents to support their child's transition from Lower to Middle School. At this casual introduction to our Middle School, Dan Keller will give a brief overview of our middle grades program and talk about what to expect when moving from Chesapeake Campus to Teel.
"It's important for parents to come so they can meet the other parents from their child's grade; as a community, we can help each other raise our kids! It’s also a good time to meet the folks in the Upper School that are supporting their kids. At each coffee, we invite the administrators that are most connected to that grade level. For example, for the 12th grade Parent Coffee, College Counseling Co-Directors Mr. David Brunk and Ms. Kimberly Coughlin attend. That makes the most sense for seniors. We try to make this as relevant as possible for each particular class."
— Upper School Head Ms. Bea Fuller

Convinced? Come to a Parent Coffee!
We love these events because it’s another way for us to get to know each and every member of our community (you!) and ensure that our families have the resources they need for the school year. Every parent at every grade level can get something out of these meetings. It’s a great way to connect with our administrative and student support teams and start the year fully engaged in your child’s experience at Severn.
