The talent just keeps on flowing! On the heels of last week’s Middle School musical comes our annual talent show. Today’s performers include students from all three grades, and the acts range from 7th and 8th graders singing a cappella and playing guitar to 6th graders dancing and reciting the alphabet backward. The students worked hard, giving up their lunch period all week to rehearse, and Mrs. Brannigan did a great job of coordinating the performances. It is always a pleasure to see the students take the stage and show off their talents outside of the classroom, and this year’s show promises to be a great one!
The Middle School also attended an informative and engaging seminar on the topic of social media. Mr. Steve Morrill, Loyola Blakefield’s director of technology, and Mason Dowell, Loyola class of ’13, spoke with grades 6-8 about the risks associated with careless social media use. The message was to think before posting because online communication is public and permanent. The guest speakers also emphasized the importance of reading the fine print prior to installing an app so that they understand exactly what personal information the application is requesting to access. The students were engaged and contributed insights throughout the presentation, and the chatter on the way out of Price and on through the afternoon reflected how important the topic is to them. Hopefully family dinner last night also included a conversation about social media, as students were asked to share what they learned with parents and siblings.
Amidst all of the special events, the quarter also came to a close last week and the final term of the school year got underway. Fourth quarter will be all about balance (spring sports, extracurricular commitments, academics and final exams, and more), and we ask that you partner with your student to ensure that they are staying on track and not spreading themselves to thin. If you or he/she needs help with this, please do not hesitate to contact us.
