Mock Trial Team Takes County Championship!

pheffner

Wednesday, February 30, marked the end of Severn’s first round of mock trial competitions. Winning a close match with Severna Park (59-58), the team is UNDEFEATED and will move on to the circuit round of playoff competitions as Anne Arundel County’s TOP MOCK TRIAL TEAM.

Susan Jackson, Severn’s mock trial advisor, along with the honorable Judge Michael Wachs (Allie '08), Debra Luzietti-Myers and David Myers (Kaitlyn '06) Paul Bennett (Jeff '08. Allison '13), and Erik Nyce (Caroline '09, Erik '11) (a large group of dedicated parents and attorneys), led the team to victory. As Mrs.Jackson puts it, however, “ It is the team that deserves the praise! The prosecution’s performance Wednesday was almost flawless. We are so proud of our entire team and their hard work. We have been meeting every weekend since November for hours of preparation and practice. It has all paid off.”

The next step for the team is to compete, along with Anne Arundel County’s number two team (yet to be determined), in the circuit playoff round.  The actual Maryland State Bar Association Mock Trial Competition’s 25th season continues until late April with the state competition held at the Court of Appeals in Annapolis. Severn holds the 2007 state championship title and hopes to be the first Maryland mock trial team ever to win two state championship awards!

Congratulations to this year’s mock trial team participants: Jeff Bennett ‘08, Elizabeth Blackwood ‘08, Casey Cronin ‘09, Mike Kuethe ‘09, Shannon Kiddoo ‘09, Olivia League ‘09, Evalyse Limon ‘09, Caroline Nyce ‘09, Max Schechter ‘10, Allie Wachs ‘08, Annie Weber ‘09, Kate Williams ‘09, and Kelsey Wooddell ‘10.
