Severn Wraps Up Successful Spring Sports Season with a National Championship in Sailing and More

Severn Athletics had a successful spring season, bringing home a National Championship in sailing, a regular season Conference title in golf, and post-season play for multiple teams.
Sailing brought the Baker Trophy back to Severn with a stellar performance at the Team Race Championship in Urbana, Virginia from May 15-17.  This talented team will next compete for the Double-Handed Championship (Mallory Trophy) in New Orleans, Louisiana from May 30-31.

The Golf team claimed the B-Conference regular season title this spring after posting an undefeated season. In postseason play, the team secured a win against St. Mary’s in the semi-finals to advance to the final round of the MIAA Championship tournament where they were bested by Archbishop Curley. Golfer Harrison Tindall ’27 shot a 79 to win the B-Conference individual championship on May 18. This individual win earned Tindall a second day of play at Bulle Rock on the following day, where he finished T-9th.

The boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, baseball and tennis teams all earned postseason play, with baseball battling through 3 rounds of playoff games before being eliminated from the B-Conference tournament by Park in the semifinals.

The tennis team went 5-1 on the season, earning a spot in the semi-finals for the B-Conference tournament. Additionally, Sebastian Sardi ’29 competed in the finals for #3 Singles in the individual tournament.

Severn’s lacrosse teams both made the A-Conference playoffs for the first time since 2022. Boys lacrosse was 11-5 on the season (6-5 in conference play), earning the #5 seed and the squad’s first playoff berth under second year Head Coach Keegan Wilkinson. The Admirals fell to the Dons in the quarterfinal round of the MIAA tournament.

Girls lacrosse also earned postseason play. The squad competed in the quarterfinals for the IAAM tournament, where they were bested by eventual IAMM A-Conference champions, the Maryvale Lions.

Track & Field also had a successful spring in both boys and girls events, breaking numerous school records. At the IAAM Track and Field Championships, Emma Patrick ’26 won the 3200m event on day one. Patrick followed that up on day two by claiming the 1600m title and a 3rd place finish in the 800m.

Izzy Sarina ’28 had a hand in setting four school records. She won the long jump and took 3rd in both the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles, breaking her own record in all three events. She later teamed up with Elizabeth Maltz ’27, Nyla Pratt ’26, and Bianca Towa ’28 to set a new school record in the 4x400m relay. Overall, the Severn girls placed third among the 18-team field.

On the boys side, Eddie Hightower ’27 broke the school record in the 400m, winning his qualifying heat and advancing to the final of the MIAA Track & Field Championships. Marcus Schwartz ’26 advanced to the finals in the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles.

Nate Eakins ’26 also nabbed a new school record, posting the best-ever discus throw at 137’ 6”. Eakins broke the school record early in the season and continued to improve to a new personal and Severn School best.

Severn congratulates all of the student athletes who competed this spring and represented the Admirals so well.
