Chart Your Course: Severn Admissions During COVID-19

From total campus closure in the spring of 2020 to hybrid learning with visiting restrictions during the 20-21 school year, a lot has changed in our admissions process during COVID-19. What we've always done — open houses, tours with student ambassadors, campus visits during school hours — doesn't fit our world today. But rather than limit your options to learn about Severn and experience our campuses, our admissions team has been working hard to offer even more opportunities than before. With robust resources along with real-time connections, in-person and virtual, "Chart Your Course" will show you why so many families choose Severn School.

Our Priority is You

Our "Chart Your Course" admissions experience is designed to be as informative as possible — for your child, your family and for our team. We understand that travel and meeting in person aren't possible for every family right now. Every part of the process offers a different lens into our school, at whatever level of engagement feels right. You can even chat virtually with a current parent to get an inside perspective! We encourage you to explore the options and evaluate what works best for you. Reach out if there is a better way we can welcome you into our community. Our priority, as ever, is you.

Begin With Our Digital Resources

As an easy starting point to your journey, watch featured videos and read stories about our community. This will give you a sense of pre-pandemic and current Severn School academics, student life, and programs. And for a glimpse of our current hybrid learning model in action, watch videos that showcase teachers and students in our Middle School and Upper School doing what they do best.

Our outdoor learning spaces like the Stine Environmental Center have become an invaluable resource during hybrid learning.

We have reimagined large community events like our Middle School Coffeehouse using Zoom so that each student can participate whether remote or in-person.

The hybrid model allows us to stay connected as a community, safely. Those connections are the heart of our school.

Take a Campus Tour

For a big-picture overview of our school's mission, philosophy, and learning spaces check out our recorded virtual tours of Chesapeake Campus and Teel Campus narrated by Severn senior Aislinn Murray '21.

Ready to explore a little further? We offer on-campus tours after school hours with a maximum of three visitors along with real-time virtual tours during school hours via Zoom.

Watch Severn Sessions

Most independent schools in our area have robust academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs, small class sizes, and impressive facilities — just like we do. But what sets us apart is something less tangible. It's a feeling of being known and valued, of being part of our supportive community from the moment we meet you, online or in-person. "Severn Sessions" is a series of videos created in collaboration with Severn alumnus Alec Green '13 that feature students, coaches, teachers, and our administration team sharing their perspectives on life at Severn. From academics and leadership to athletics and the arts, you’ll learn why every child has an opportunity to find their voice in our community. Our team will be adding videos through January!
