These Are a Few of our Favorite Things

The famous Rodgers and Hammerstein tune, "My Favorite Things," is a classic holiday song that reminds us of the little things that bring joy to our lives each day. And with the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, exams, end of semester projects and more, it’s those little things that keep us going. At a time when everyone seems to be busier than they’d like, it’s important to slow down, gather as a community and celebrate what makes Severn School such a special place. Enjoy some of our favorite seasonal moments as we wave goodbye to 2019 and welcome the new year ahead!

Lower School Band and String Ensembles Concerts

The Lower School Band and String Ensembles performed for parents and friends in the Louise Sivy Theater and Pat Troy Media Center. We love seeing how much our talented third through fifth-grade musicians have grown in just a few short months. Both groups staged wonderful programs of songs they had worked on during the fall, including a few holiday classics.

Lower School Pajama Day and Caroling Assembly

Lower School students, faculty and staff skipped their regular morning routines to come to school in their PJs! After a morning of cozy pajama fun, every grade joined together to sing holiday favorites, dance, giggle, and wiggle their way toward winter break.

Middle School Winter Concert

Our Middle School artists shared their first-semester work with family and friends at this annual arts event. Lively performances included holiday favorites like “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” selections from “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Run Rudolph Run.” And what holiday show would be complete without a can-can courtesy of the 8th-grade dance troupe? Bravo middle schoolers!

Upper School Revels

Chamber Music Ensemble, Treble Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Instrumental Ensemble, Jam Band, and Breakwater (our a capella group) showed off their musical chops at two Revels performances. After weeks of rehearsal, the groups performed an abbreviated show for the entire Upper School during the day followed by a full performance in the evening for family and friends. The groups showcased a wide-ranging repertoire from traditional spirituals to more contemporary picks including Rihanna’s "Stay” performed by Treble Choir and Bruno Mars’s “Locked Out of Heaven” performed by Instrumental Ensemble.

Enjoy a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!

We are truly grateful for every moment we get to share together each year. Thank you to our students, families, friends, and faculty for all that you do for the Severn community! We wish you warmth in your cups and even more in your hearts as you enjoy the well-deserved winter respite. We can't wait to see you again in the new year!
Seasons greetings card.
