Annual Multicultural Admiral Dinner Offered Up a Culinary Trip Around the World

The Severn School community came together on Saturday, March 2 for the annual Multicultural Admiral Dinner, a potluck event that celebrates the vibrant diversity of the greater school community.
Approximately 150 people enjoyed this year’s dinner, which featured a travel theme and encouraged participants to celebrate the cultures and traditions of the Severn community through food and fellowship.

In keeping with the theme, all attendees were issued a ticket and passport upon arrival. Then they embarked upon a culinary trip around the world, working their way through the various tables and sampling homemade dishes that represented more than 20 different countries.

Students, parents, teachers, and other family members from Severn’s Lower, Middle and Upper Schools were in attendance, many of whom brought dishes that represented their background or culture. Some participants also wore clothing that celebrated their culture or country of origin. Artwork from students in all grades was on display, as were CommUnity Day presentations. Another highlight of the event is a collaborative digital cookbook that includes recipes for the featured dishes and is available to everyone.

"Incredible cuisine, culture, family, and community are the special ingredients that make the Multicultural Admiral Dinner such a fulfilling and memorable experience on the Severn School Calendar.  Our DEI Coordinators (Camille Jones - Upper School, JoAnna Josey - Middle School, and Taylor Belo - Lower School) do a phenomenal job of organizing and promoting the event to all three of our divisions.  Each year we have seen an increase of attendees, and we are excited to continue to see the growth of the event with a greater incorporation of our students' artwork as well as cultural displays from CommUnity Day in the Upper School."

The Multicultural Admiral Dinner is the perfect opportunity for the community to connect and share its traditions and cultures with one another in celebration of Severn’s rich tapestry.
