Middle School Celebrates Spring Sports Season

The Middle School held the final Athletic Awards Assembly of the school year on May 17, celebrating the contributions of all the spring student-athletes and coaches.
Severn 7th and 8th graders competed in track and field, boys and girls tennis, baseball, and boys and girls lacrosse.

Highlights from the spring season included boys tennis losing just one match (record: 7-1), and the inaugural season for the baseball team, which has just been added to the middle school athletic lineup. All student-athletes competed hard and with great sportsmanship throughout a season that saw every variation of weather and where the majority of the coaches were new.  Every student-athlete received a certificate in recognition of their participation on a spring sports team.

In addition to acknowledging the efforts and successes of each team, two awards were announced for each team.  The Player’s Award goes to the team member who demonstrated leadership, sportsmanship, team spirit, a selfless attitude, commitment and a true love of the game. This award is voted on by the members of the team. The Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award is selected by the coach and presented to the best player overall.
