Hometown: Shady Side, MD
After Severn, Darren went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 2009, and his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut in 2013. Darren was drawn to social work due to its breadth of opportunity, and focus on helping vulnerable populations. He currently works for DC Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) in the foster care system. As a Performance Monitor, Darren is responsible for the quality assurance of group homes, therapeutic foster homes, as well as traditional foster homes and apartments, making certain that the services provided promote the permanence, safety and wellbeing of the children in care. This includes ensuring that all foster parents and service providers throughout the district are consistently adhering to the required licensing and clearance regulations set forth by the city. In his free time, Darren enjoys reading, writing, and traveling, which has become a recent passion. Over the past 2 years, he’s achieved his goal of traveling to and documenting his adventures at all of the Wonders of the World. Darren is “forever grateful” for the opportunities that attending Severn has offered him, and is humbled to share this prestigious honor with so many other incredible Admiral alumni.
