Jane Friend '00
Hometown: Annapolis, MD
A graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A.) and Columbia University’s Teachers College (M.A.), Jane currently serves as the Coordinator of Elementary Reading and Integrated Literacy for Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS). With over 80 elementary schools, AACPS is the 40th largest school district in the county. In her first two years in the position, the county cut the achievement gap in half for reading. Previous to her current position, Jane taught in two Title I elementary schools in AACPS as well as a charter school in Harlem, NYC. She serves on the Board of Womenade, a local organization that provides one-time, short-term financial assistance to community members in need. Jane is also actively involved in the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, whose services support individuals who are victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
