Ebony Flowers '99

Hometown: Denver CO
Ebony is a cartoonist and an ethnographer. Ebony holds a BA in Biological Anthropology from the University of Maryland College Park and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she wrote her dissertation as a comic. Her expertise is in qualitative research and evaluation, picture-based methods, curriculum studies, and S.T.E.A.M. education. Ebony is a 2017 Rona Jaffe Writers’ Award Recipient--an award which is given annually to six women writers who demonstrate excellence and promise in the early stages of their careers. Her first book, Hot Comb, was published by Drawn and Quarterly in June 2019. She lives in Denver with her son, husband, and a cat. You can find more of her work at www.ebonydrawsflowers.com
