    LS Sports Equipment Drive

The Lower School's Destination Imagination* team Severn Can Help will be collecting gently used and/or new sports equipment for the children of the YWCA of Anne Arundel County as part of their Service Learning challenge.

Donations will be collected at the Chesapeaek Campus morning drop off Tuesday, January 19 through Thursday, January 28. Larger items such as bikes and scooters can be brought into the LS conference room starting on Tuesday, January 26.

Please help our students help the children of the YWCA. Contact Severn Can Help Team Manager and Destination Imagination Coordinator Crystal Erskine at c.erskine@severnschool.com with questions.

*The Lower school has three Destination Imagination teams this year. The members of one of the teams, Severn Can Help, are hard at work on the Service Learning challenge.  Their job this year was to use the creative process to identify, design, plan, and carry out a project that addresses a real community need. Severn Can Help also had to create a meme to help meet their project goals.  A meme is used to spread a message quickly; hopefully this one will go viral! We hope this creation will grab your attention and help spread the word that we need your help to collect used sports equipment for the YWCA of Anne Arundel County.

Location: Einstein Bagels in Severna Park

  • Dillon Moran 2016 Musician-in-Residence

The Dillon Moran Musician in Residence program was created in the Fall of 2012 to commemorate the passion, exuberance and solid musicianship exemplified by Dillon Moran, Severn School Class of 2013. Dillon’s life was tragically cut short in the fall of 2011 as the result of an accident at his home in Davidsonville, Maryland.

The purpose of the program is to invite outside musicians to spend a defined period of time at Severn working with students, faculty, and the entire community to inspire, create and perform great music. The visiting musician will share his/her talent with Severn students and hopefully provide a fresh approach and new ways of bringing music to life in the Severn community.

  • Counseling Department Parent Forum: Cyber Safety

Sgt. Patrick McLaughlin with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Child Abuse Unit, will discus cyber safety. It is an amazing time for our digitally connected youth. The Internet and a variety of digital devices can bring the world, with all its good, and not so good, right into the hands of our kids and teens.  We are concerned about inappropriate content, harassment, cyber bullying, threats and those who prey upon and attempt to lure children. Information in the hands of involved parents is one of the greatest ways to combat these threats and protect kids and teens.

This Internet Safety presentation will provide families with the information necessary to prevent their children from being victimized.

Counseling department parent forums typically take a seminar-type format and feature a pre-established topic or presenter. These forums offer parenting tips and tools, educate about developmental norms for children and adolescents, and provide opportunities for parents in our community to connect with one another and with the counselors in all three divisions.
