    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time 12-month employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)
  • Tuition Remission

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School. 
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors. 
  • Professional Development

    Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

  • Lower School Part Time Prekindergarten Teaching Assistant

    • Job Title: Lower School Part Time Prekindergarten Teaching Assistant
      Supervisor:  Lower School Head
      Start Date:  August 2026
      General Summary:  Severn School is searching for a Teaching Assistant to work in our prekindergarten classrooms.  Hours for the position are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:30am-1:00pm.
      Essential Functions: The candidate will support the lead teacher and teaching team with promoting a positive classroom community that instills a love of learning and exploration, assists with implementing lessons, preparing materials, working with individual and small groups of students, supervising students, and completing other duties as assigned.
      QualificationsThe ideal candidate has a natural, genuine joy of working with young children, understands developmental milestones of young children and learners, is organized, has good communication and collaboration skills, willingness to learn new ideas and has experience working with preschool and/or prekindergarten children.  A BA or BS Degree in a related field and/or coursework in Early Childhood education, 90 hour certificate is preferred. Candidates also must complete all pre-service paperwork required by MSDE Office of Child Care.

  • Library Associate – Part Time Position

    Severn School seeks a Library Associate to support students and faculty in grades 6-12.

    Reporting to the Library Director, the Library Associate will help ensure the library is a welcoming, service-oriented place. In conjunction with other library staff, this part-time employee will supervise a two-story library that is often bustling with students and faculty. This individual will also assist with maintaining the collection, library programming, and clerical tasks.

    This part-time position begins in August 2026. Hours are flexible, and there is the possibility of making this a full-time position if combined with other areas of need at Severn.

    Qualifications (preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications):
    •    Previous experience working in a public library or school library
    •    Experience working with children and young adults
    •    Ability to establish effective and collaborative working relationships with students and colleagues
    •    Appropriate technology skills to accomplish job responsibilities and a willingness to learn new technologies and troubleshoot issues that arise
    •    Strong organizational and time management skills

    Position Expectations (the individual selected to fill this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities, though the list is not exhaustive):
    •    Supervise middle and upper school students
    •    Process and circulate materials 
    •    Use the library management system to run reports, catalog books as needed, delete eBooks, and perform other needed tasks
    •    Attend webinars or other professional development to stay abreast of upgrades to the system and share those with the library staff
    •    Assist students and faculty with library technology, including access to online resources, printing, and copying
    •    Maintain the collection by shelving, keeping shelves neat and orderly, and communicating with students and parents regarding late or lost materials
    •    Perform clerical duties such as ordering library supplies, completing business office paperwork, maintaining a budget spreadsheet, processing mail, adding events to the library calendar, etc...

  • Upper School Administrative Assistant

    Job Title: Upper School Administrative Assistant
     
    Supervisor: Director of Studies and Strategic Initiatives
     
    Start Date: July 1, 2026
     
    General Summary: The Upper School Administrative Assistant’s role is designed to help ensure the successful academic functioning of the Upper School. The Upper School Administrative Assistant’s primary focus will be supporting the Director of Studies and the college counseling office. The Upper School Administrative Assistant is part of a team of administrative assistants at the school and will work closely with the Assistant to the Upper School Head to ensure the smooth daily operation of the Upper School. This is a 12 month position.
     
    Essential Functions:
    • Maintain accurate daily attendance records for all students and communicate with the necessary school constituents
    • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Director of Studies and the college counseling office
    • Assist with the administration and coordination of yearly final exams, standardized tests, and AP exams
    • Assist the Director of Studies with the processing of grades and teacher comments throughout the year
    • Maintain, update, and, as necessary, send student and parent data, including grades and transcripts
    • Coordinate college rep visits
    • Assist, in conjunction with the other administrative assistants, with the preparation for and running of school events and initiatives throughout the year.
    • Other duties as assigned
     
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
    • Previous experience in an administrative or school setting preferred
    • Proficiency with Blackbaud Learning Management System or similar LMS preferred
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and Google suite
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Collegial and collaborative approach to work

  • Lower School After School Care Teachers and Assistants

    Severn Lower School After School Care Teachers and Assistants

    Reports To: Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator

    Description of Role: Severn School is seeking qualified and experienced teachers and assistants for its Lower School after-school program (preschool through grade 5). 

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Severn School's BASC (Before and After School Care) Program provides a safe, supervised space for students to do homework, read, play, and socialize with friends. BASC teachers and assistants supervise students during after-school activities including indoor and outdoor play, snack, and homework. 

    Work hours range from 2:30pm-6:00pm Monday-Friday. Candidates must be able to work at least 3 days per week. 

    Qualifications: Candidates must have experience in a school setting and preferred candidates will hold 90-hour certification in school age child care (or equivalent approved college coursework).

Our Learning Never Stops

As a student-centered institution, Severn School believes that adults should model the qualities they wish to see in their students. We provide built-in professional development opportunities throughout the school year, support faculty travel to conferences, offer grants for personal and professional growth, and offer a robust line-up of summer PD classes taught by and for Severn faculty.
