    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)
  • Tuition Remission

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School. 
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors. 
  • Professional Development

    Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

  • Buildings & Grounds Department

    Job Title:   Buildings and Grounds Team Member

    Reports To:  Director of Business and Finance

    Description of Role:  Candidate’s main responsibility, as a member of the Buildings and Grounds Department, is to help maintain a safe and clean campus for Severn’s Students, employees and visitors. Severn’s 22-acre campus includes three academic buildings, an Alumni Affairs/Development Building, a sports complex, four athletic fields, parking lots and eight residential houses.  

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  Opening and closing of buildings; Maintain HV/AC systems; Maintain buildings and residences to include minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting; Maintain grounds to include: picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping sidewalks and cleaning entryway glasses; Deliver packages; clean and fill buses with gas and other fluids.

    Other Duties:  Set-up and facilitate events such as: Assemblies, Homecoming Weekend, Alumni Weekend, Open House, Productions and Graduation.
    Seasonal Duties: Clean gutters and downspouts; Blow and rake leaves; Maintaining flower beds, bushes and trees; Remove snow and salt walkways.

    Qualifications:  Candidate must pass background check.  Must be able to perform the following tasks:  Climb ladders; Work with gas/electric powered tools; Drive a pickup; Drive an activity bus; Operate utility vehicles.

  • Lower School Before and After Care (BASC) Administrator

    Job Title:  Lower School Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator

    Supervisor:  Lower School Head

    Start Date:  August 2024

    General Summary:  Severn School is searching for a full time, 10-month Lower School Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator to begin August 2024.  Hours for the position are weekdays 10:00am-6:00pm with flexibility to work 8:00am-4:00pm during pre/post planning and professional development days.

    Essential Functions:  The candidate must manage all aspects of the Lower School before/after school care (BASC) program, including staffing, supervision of students, scheduling, budgeting, billing, programming, after-school clubs, purchasing snacks and supplies, communications, and day-to-day operations.  In addition, the candidate will assist the Summer Camp Director with organizing summer camp logistics as requested.

    Qualifications:  The ideal candidate has a natural, genuine joy of working with young children, knowledge of child care regulations, leadership skills to oversee the BASC program including collaborating with faculty and parents, is organized to maintain the many functions of the job, and has a BA or BS Degree in a related field.  Experience working in/directing an after-school program is preferred.

    General Summary: Severn School is searching for a full time Upper School Physics teacher to begin in August of 2024. 

    Essential Functions: Instruction at Severn starts with relationships and emphasizes the importance of understanding, connections, and teamwork in order to create a learning environment that promotes both achievement and inclusivity. The Severn faculty is a community of learners committed to ongoing professional development, reflection, collaboration, and collegiality, and a premium is placed on the development and employment of intentional teaching, learning, and assessment methods. Severn believes that all aspects of a student’s experience, including but not limited to leadership training, service, clubs, the advisory program, athletics, and the arts, are necessary components of a Severn education. Faculty participation in these pursuits beyond the classroom reflects the collective commitment to living the school’s deep-rooted mission, which promises that students are known and valued.

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate can teach multiple levels of Upper School Physics, will have a strong educational background with a degree in a related field, and will possess a steadfast commitment to the life of the school beyond the classroom. Athletic coaching experience and previous secondary school teaching experience are preferred but not required. Our Learning Never Stops

As a student-centered institution, Severn School believes that adults should model the qualities they wish to see in their students. We provide built-in professional development opportunities throughout the school year, support faculty travel to conferences, offer grants for personal and professional growth, and offer a robust line-up of summer PD classes taught by and for Severn faculty. Our hope is that faculty will engage frequently in professional development so as to remain nimble for change in our evolving world.
