    Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.

    Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time 12-month employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)
  • Tuition Remission

    Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School. 
  • New Faculty Support

    Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors. 
  • Professional Development

    Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

  • Chesapeake Campus After School Care Teachers and Assistants

    Job Title:   Before and After School Care (BASC) Teacher and Assistant

    Reports To:  Before and After School Care (BASC) Administrator

    Description of Role:  Severn School is seeking qualified and experienced teachers and assistants for its after-school program at the Lower School (preschool through grade 5).

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:  Severn School's BASC (Before and After School Care) Program runs from 3:00-6:00pm, Monday through Friday.  BASC Teachers and Assistants supervise students during after-school activities including indoor and outdoor play, snack, homework, and transitions to and from after-school clubs. Candidates need to be able to work 3, 4, or 5 days a week.

    Qualifications:  Candidates must have experience in a school setting and preferred candidates will hold 90-hour certification in school age child care (or equivalent approved college coursework).

  • Learning Specialist

    Job Title: LEARNING SPECIALIST 
    Supervisor: Director of the Learning Resource Center 
    Start Date: August 14, 2025 

    General Summary: 
    Severn School seeks a learning specialist to support middle school and high school students. 
      
    Reporting to the director of the Learning Resource Center (LRC), the learning specialist will work collaboratively with students, families, and faculty to develop and incorporate appropriate strategies and accommodations that will facilitate student academic success. The learning specialist will partner with faculty and administrators to better understand and meet the needs of students across grade levels. As a member of the LRC team, this individual will help assess learning needs and provide individual and small group academic support to diverse learners in grades 6-12, in literacy, numeracy, and executive functioning. In addition, the learning specialist will partner with teachers to provide support with differentiation and offer consultation on accommodating a range of learners in the classroom. 
      
    This is a full-time, 10-month position.   
     
    Essential Functions: 
    • Design and implement individualized learning profiles, plans, and programs that actively engage students in meeting their learning goals, including the integration of assistive technology 
    • Maintain clear and consistent communication and documentation protocols related to learning support 
    • Regularly assess and monitor student achievement and progress, and share insights with students, families, and colleagues to foster a collaborative approach to growth 
    • Manage the school’s electronic learning profile system and ensure learning support plans are current for each student requiring additional support 
    • Facilitate faculty trainings focused on supporting neurodiversity and effective instructional strategies 
    • Provide direct support to students through one-on-one meetings and small group sessions 
    • Engage in parent education initiatives related to learning needs, attention differences, dyslexia, and other language-based challenges 
    • Work closely with teachers to assess, implement, and refine student accommodations and support strategies 
     
    Qualifications: 
    • Master’s degree in education, special education, or equivalent training 
    • Three to five years of teaching experience 
    • Experience as a school-based learning specialist 
    • Deep understanding of how attention, memory, language, social skills, and executive functioning challenges impact student learning and academic success 
    • Enthusiasm for working with middle and upper school students 
    • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative, positive, and effective relationships with students, parents, and colleagues 
    • Strong team orientation, with a proven record of working effectively and cooperatively within diverse groups 
    • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills 
    • Proficiency with technology relevant to educational settings

  • Maintenance Associate - Teel Campus

    Job Title:   Maintenance Associate – Teel Campus
    Reports to: Director of Facilities
    Description of Role: Candidate’s main responsibility, as a maintenance associate for the Severn School, is to help maintain a safe, functional, and clean campus for Severn’s Students, employees and visitors. Severn’s 22-acre campus includes three academic buildings, an Alumni Affairs/Development Building, a sports complex, four athletic fields, parking lots and eight residential houses.
    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
    • Opening and closing of buildings.
    • Conduct daily campus inspections.
    • Maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the building’s interior and exterior.
    • Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, etc.
    • Performing minor repairs
    • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and administration.
    • Communicate effectively with school staff and administration regarding maintenance needs.
    • Adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures.
    • Contribute to creating a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment.
    • Uphold the operational efficiency and aesthetic appeal of school facilities
    • Deliver packages
    Other Duties: Set-up and facilitate events such as: Assemblies, Homecoming Weekend, Alumni Weekend, Open House, Productions and Graduation. Set-up classrooms and offices.  Other duties as assigned.
    Seasonal Duties: Clean gutters and downspouts; Blow and rake leaves; Maintaining flower beds, bushes and trees; Remove snow and salt walkways; Trim bushes and trim trees as needed; Fill holes on playing fields.
    Qualifications:
    • Candidate must pass background check.
    • Must have knowledge of safety procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals.
    • Ability to perform minor repairs, such as changing light bulbs.
    • Ability to communicate with supervisors and other employees about maintenance issues.
    • Ability to notice and address dirt, stains, and other issues
    • Must be able to perform the following tasks: Climb ladders, can lift 50lbs, work with hand tools, drive a pickup, drive an activity bus, operate utility vehicles.

    Description of Role: Candidate’s main responsibility, as a maintenance technician for the Severn School, is to help maintain a safe, functional, and clean campus for Severn’s Students, employees and visitors.     • Address plumbing and electrical repairs to ensure functional facilities.
    • Repair and maintain equipment, fixtures, and systems.
    • Ensure heating, cooling, and ventilation systems work effectively.
    • Perform minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and general upkeep tasks.
    • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and administration.
    • Communicate effectively with school staff and administration regarding maintenance needs.
    • Adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures.
    • Contribute to creating a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment.
    • Uphold the operational efficiency and aesthetic appeal of school facilities.
    • Maintain grounds to include picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles,            sweeping sidewalks, and cleaning entryway glasses.
    •  Deliver packages.
    •  Clean and fill buses with gas and other fluids.
    •  Clean up spills as they occur.

    General Summary: Severn School is searching for a full time Upper School Spanish teacher to begin in August of 2025. 

    Essential Functions: Instruction at Severn starts with relationships and emphasizes the importance of understanding, connections, and teamwork in order to create a learning environment that promotes both achievement and inclusivity. The Severn faculty is a community of learners committed to ongoing professional development, reflection, collaboration, and collegiality, and a premium is placed on the development and employment of intentional teaching, learning, and assessment methods. Severn believes that all aspects of a student’s experience, including but not limited to leadership training, service, clubs, the advisory program, athletics, and the arts, are necessary components of a Severn education. Faculty participation in these pursuits beyond the classroom reflects the collective commitment to living the school’s deep-rooted mission, which promises that students are known and valued.

    Qualifications: The ideal candidate can teach multiple levels of Upper School Spanish, will have a strong educational background with a degree in a related field, and will possess a steadfast commitment to the life of the school beyond the classroom. Athletic coaching experience and previous secondary school teaching experience are preferred but not required. We provide built-in professional development opportunities throughout the school year, support faculty travel to conferences, offer grants for personal and professional growth, and offer a robust line-up of summer PD classes taught by and for Severn faculty.
