  • Coronavirus Update

    With summer right around the corner, Severn School would like to ensure all 2020 summer camp participants that we are currently closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19).  At this time our plans for the summer are still unclear and we are not accepting new registrations for summer camps.  The health and safety of all of our campers is of the utmost importance to us. Severn will continue to monitor the situation both locally and globally while also adhering to best practices as defined by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization. Once we know our plans we will notify you immediately. Teel Camps

Find Your Summer Spark

Summer at Severn Teel Camps are designed for campers entering grades 5-12 who are ready to ignite their passions and soar to new heights. Led by enthusiastic (and super cool!) Severn School teachers, these immersive week-long experiences are sure to spark the innovator, creator, and fun-seeker within! From designing graphic novels and mastering chess to throwing clay on the pottery wheel, if you dig it, we’ve got a camp for it.

Teel Specialty Camps

Teel Specialty Camps are offered as full-day or half-day sessions (morning or afternoon). All camps run Monday through Friday. Please see camp descriptions for specific age ranges, times and cost.

A supervised lunch and break time will be provided for campers attending both morning and afternoon sessions.

On Fridays, all campers in full-day and half-day afternoon camps, will go swimming at the North Severna Park pool from 1:00-2:00 pm. Please bring a towel, sunscreen and swimsuit. There will be activities for those who do not want to swim.

  • Week 1: Chess for Beginners, Dabblers, and the Semi-Serious (AM)

    Dates: June 22-26, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Mr. Daryl Walsh
    Cost: $200
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    The benefits of chess, for both boys and girls, is well-documented. Designed for non-tournament players, this camp briefly reviews the rules of chess and then introduces the broad strategies and tactics that every chess player should bring to the table. If you want some guiding principles upon which to build your confidence and skill, this camp is for you. Each day you can expect instruction, practice, games versus peers, and fun activities. 
  • Week 1: Get Fired Up (full-day & PM sessions available)

    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Ms. Jonnie Friedman
    Cost: $325 (full-day), $125 (afternoons only)
    Time: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (full-day), 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm (afternoons only)

    Create unique pieces using the wheel and traditional clay building methods to create art in our fully equipped pottery studio. Campers will discover and improve techniques on the wheel while learning to center, throw, trim and glaze the medium of clay. We’ll form works by hand, select and apply glazes, learn firing techniques and refine your skills. Designed for all skill levels. Let's get messy in the studio!
  • Week 2: Through the Years (PM)

    Dates: June 29-July 3, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Ms. Diana Ford
    Cost: $125
    Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

    Each day we'll dive into a new decade. We'll listen to popular music, read major news stories from the time period, check out fads and fashion, and learn about all aspects of culture from the time.
  • Week 3: Amazing Graphic Novel Camp (full day)

    Dates: July 6-10, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructors: Ms. Diana Ford & Ms. Mary Ellen Carsley
    Cost: $325
    Time: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

    Writers and artists will read different types of graphic novels (manga, superheroes, adaptations, memoirs, etc.) and discuss writing and illustration styles. Students will then write, illustrate, and craft their own graphic novels. We will brainstorm fun characters, write their dialogues, and send them on an adventure! Budding authors and artists should come with an open mind and a desire to try out different art techniques to make their anime, animals, and super hero characters come alive.
  • Week 3: Archery (PM)

    Dates: July 6-10, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Mr. Dan Mahoney
    Cost: $125
    Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

    Campers will have the opportunity to experience the sport of archery using an indoor archery range. Each camper who participates in the archery program will be instructed in safety procedures and the use of all archery equipment prior to participation. All equipment will be provided. ** Please note that the additional parental consent form is mandatory for participation in this activity.
  • Week 3: Underwater ROV (AM)

    Dates: July 6-10, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Mr. Damian Baraty
    Cost: $200 + $150 materials fee
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the waves? This tech workshop will allow students to build, operate, and take home their own underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Students will learn the basics of underwater ROV design in the Graw Innovation Center, and then design and implement a mechanical frame, electronics, motors, control systems, and a camera to peer into the underwater realm. 
  • Week 4: Introduction to Mindfulness and Meditation (PM)

    Dates: July 13-17, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Ms. Karin Mitchell
    Cost: $125
    Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

    In this session, we will learn all about mindfulness and how to work with our minds to be more present in our lives. Living a more mindful life leads to greater feelings of peace and happiness, increased focus and concentration, and better emotional regulation. Campers will practice mindful walking, make mala beads for meditation, and learn how to create a regular mindfulness practice in their lives.
  • Week 4: Survivor Teel Island

    Dates: July 13-17, 2020
    Ages: rising 6th-9th
    Instructors: Ms. JoAnna Josey and Ms. Minda Wesley
    Cost: $325
    Time: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

    Back by popular demand! Compete in physical, mental and teamwork challenges to show allegiance to your "tribe." Food challenges, obstacle courses, survivor skills, scavenger hunts, and team races are just some of the fun-filled competitions campers will enjoy during this fast-paced week of summertime adventure!

Middle School Jumpstart Academic Camps

New this year...Jumpstart Academic Camps for Middle School! Discover the world of learning at Severn School with hands-on experiences in a wide variety of academic areas. These are half-day sessions (morning or afternoon). Please see camp descriptions for specific age ranges, times and cost.

  • Week 2: Mathematical Mindsets (AM)

    Dates: June 29-July 3, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Ms. Rachel McMahon
    Cost: $200
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    Have you ever heard the phrase, “I’m just not a math person?” Chances are, you have. But math isn't a "you can or you can't" kind of subject...and it was never meant to be! In this camp, we will explore patterns, draw pictures, and manipulate numbers in many different ways. You'll learn that anyone can be a “math person.” If you want to improve the way you feel about and perform in math, this is the camp for you!

  • Week 4: Short Story Book Club (AM)

    Dates: July 13-17, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Ms. Diana Ford
    Cost: $200
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    In our short story book club, we'll read short stories from a variety of authors and think about what makes a story compelling. Is it the characters? The plot? Creative conversation? Students will then use their skills to write their own short stories, workshop with their peers, and wrap up the week with their own collection of stories. 
  • Week 5: Jumpstart to 6th Grade Math (AM)

    Dates: July 20-24, 2020
    Age: rising 6th
    Instructor: Ms. Stacy Shaener
    Cost: $200
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    Campers will review and preview key concepts in the sixth-grade math classes through fun hands-on games and activities. 
  • Week 6: Explore New Worlds Through Creative Writing (AM)

    Dates: July 27-31, 2020
    Ages: rising 5th-8th
    Instructor: Ms. Whitney Etchison
    Cost: $200
    Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

    Are you a fantasy or science fiction fan?  Want to try your hand at writing your own?  Then this week is for you! We will focus on techniques for writing engaging fantasy and science fiction stories, which you will use in your own writing throughout the week. Come ready to have fun with writing prompts, world-building activities, creating your own characters and more! 

Broaden Your Horizons

Community Enrichment Camp

Where is the best place to start making a difference in the world? Right in your own community! Community Enrichment Camp mixes educational fun with the responsibility to take care of the people and places around us. This week-long camp is offered all six weeks of the 2020 season. Signed certificates of service will be presented to each camper with the total number of hours served.

Ages: rising 6th-12th (alternate weeks for middle and high school)
Cost: $300 per week
Time: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

  • Rising 6th-8th: June 29-July 3, July 13-17, and July 27-31

  • Typical Community Enrichment Camp Projects

    Campers will spend their mornings exploring the many service-related projects our community has to offer. Interacting with and socializing animals from a local rescue group, assisting with clean-up and maintenance at county parks, and visiting residents at a nearby senior living facility are a few of the opportunities that await campers who choose to be a part of this vibrant program. 
  • What to Bring to Camp

    Campers are asked to bring:
    • work/gardening gloves
    • sunscreen
    • refillable water bottle
    • non-perishable lunch (no refrigeration provided)
    • snacks
    • swimsuit, sunscreen and a towel for Friday at the pool
    No open-toed shoes are permitted. Please label all items brought to camp.
