Most independent schools in our area have robust academic, athletic and extracurricular programs, small class sizes and impressive facilities — just like we do. But what sets us apart is something less tangible. It’s a feeling of being known and valued, of being part of our community from the first moment you walk in the door. Our admissions team is here to show you the best of what we have to offer. But more importantly, we’ll help you reflect on how to best meet the needs of your family. Our priority is you.
Informative By Design
Our admissions process is designed to be as informative as possible — for your child, your family and for our team. From your campus tour to class visit day, each step offers a different perspective on our school. We encourage you to go through the entire process to experience what it's like to be a Severn Admiral.
Campus Tour
This is our favorite way for families to begin the process of getting to know Severn. On both campuses, tours include a visit to every part of our school with either a member of our admissions team or a student guide. The campus tour offers a glimpse into student life along with information about our history and facilities. Be ready for an interruption or two along the way…our students and teachers are always eager to welcome new faces!
The Online Application
Admission to Severn is selective; each year there are more qualified applicants than spaces available. Our online application is an essential step toward identifying the most capable and highly motivated students who will both benefit from a Severn education and contribute positively to our community.
Class Visit Day
After you submit your application, it’s time to spend a day with us. For the “shadow” or class visit day, your child (grades 2-12) is paired with a Severn student for the entire day. Visiting with a buddy gives your child a truer sense of what it’s like to go to school here — attend classes, eat lunch, participate in clubs and activities, and more. For younger children (preschool and 1st grade) the day is shorter including a classroom visit and an overall academic assessment.
Student and Parent Interviews
These are more discussions than interviews. For Lower School students, the entire family has one-on-one time with an admissions team member. For Middle and Upper School applicants, we meet with you and your child separately. If you have questions about curriculum, athletics, arts, facilities, clubs, etc., this is the time to ask!
Our Best Advice
Dig deep into the culture and curriculum of any school you consider. Once you've gathered all of the information you can, trust your instincts. When you choose Severn School, you choose an education for your child that is unmatched, but also a lifelong connection to our supportive community. We hope to see you on campus soon!
