To the Class of 2018: Don’t Worry, You'll Find Your Place
Searching for the right college isn’t always easy. From location to cost to curriculum to culture, each school offers a different mix of what our outgoing seniors may (or may not!) want for their futures. With so many factors to consider coupled with natural anxiety about the unknown, it can be all too easy to feel stress rather than excitement about the jump from high school to college. To help ease this transition, a few Severn alumni from the class of 2016 stopped by campus in December to share words of wisdom with our seniors — as one alum put it, “Don’t worry, you’ll find your place.”
From Those Who Know It Best
Our seniors have a whole crew of people cheering for them. Their teachers, college counselors, administrators, parents...but no one can speak to what they are about to go through better than those who have just done the same thing. With that understanding, College Counseling Co-Directors Mr. David Brunk and Ms. Kimberly Coughlin schedule an alumni panel each year to talk with our seniors about all things college. From practical advice about finding friends and getting involved to strategies for interacting with professors and managing workload, the alums give our seniors a pep talk about the challenges and achievements that lie ahead.
After the panel this year, our alums shared a bit of their experience with us so we could share with you!
College-bound and Need Help?
Check out the resources on our college counseling page and reach out to Mr. Brunk or Ms. Coughlin in the college counseling office. They advocate for our students — helping to highlight special strengths and support college applications with letters of recommendation. They can answer questions about admission testing and application procedures. They are here to help Severn students and families navigate the college decision-making process to find the right match — for the people our students are and the people they hope to be.
