A Celebration of Perseverance and Camaraderie

Being part of an athletic team at Severn is about much more than playing a sport. It's about learning how to keep going in the face of adversity with the support of your teammates to pull you through. Last week, Severn’s athletic department hosted our Senior Athlete Recognition Assembly on Zoom. With opening remarks from Athletic Director Mr. Julian Domenech '84, the presentation included touching speeches from every coach, highlighting team perseverance and camaraderie — that Admiral spirit we see on and off the field. Although the 2020 spring season was cut much too short, we are grateful to all of our student-athletes for their contributions to Severn’s programs over the past four years.

Gratitude and Severn Pride

To open the ceremony, Mr. Domench offered sincere words of thanks to our Class of 2020 athletes,
“Before we begin, I’d like to thank our seniors for everything you have given to Severn during your time here. While this spring has been disappointing, you continue to show dedication and focus on your schoolwork each and every day, just as you have done in athletics. We thank you for that. You have meant so much to Severn and will leave a lasting impression on our program for years to come.”
Each coach then honored our senior athletes, sharing anecdotes and fond memories as a slideshow of photos played on the screen.

Onward and Upward

Finally, Mr. Domenech proudly shared the roster of Severn Admirals who will continue their playing careers in college.

And to Our Coaches

Embracing our mission to model the qualities we wish to see in our students, our coaches have demonstrated flexibility, resilience and dedication throughout the uncertainty of the COVID-19 shutdown. From creating training plans and online workouts to hosting Zoom gatherings to spend time together as a team, our coaches have worked tirelessly to uphold Severn’s values and remind every player what it means to be a true teammate, in good times and bad.
“While it was difficult for our athletes this spring, it was just as difficult for our coaches to not be able to be with our student-athletes day in and day out. I want to thank all of our coaches for everything they did in preparation for this season and the things they did to keep our kids motivated and in shape. To all of you, a very heartfelt thank you.” — Mr. Domenech '84
