Welcome to the Severn Family!
We’ve all been there. Walking into that first event as a new member of a community can be exciting and nerve-wracking at once. As parents, we are often surprised at how quickly our children adjust to unfamiliar surroundings as they fall into new schedules and friendships with ease. Our faculty makes sure that every student feels known and valued from the first day they step through our doors. We want you, the new parents in our community, to feel that same sense of belonging. We are eager to get to know you and want to make sure you have everything you need for a happy and successful school year!
Get to Know Our Community
- Welcome Back Bash from 6-8:00 pm on Thursday, September 5th. Enjoy beverages and mouth-watering small-plate fare at our annual welcome back event for parents, alumni, faculty and staff.
- Grade-Level Parent Coffees. These are informal coffee and conversation sessions for parents of students at every grade level. These mornings provide a personalized forum to learn about grade-level specific topics while meeting our faculty, staff and of course, other parents! Click here for more about parent coffees.
A Program Just For You
All new families to Severn are included in our New Parent Program for their first year! You'll receive a phone call from one of our Severn Parent Ambassadors, a monthly post card from our development team with upcoming dates and reminders, and a New Parent Planner & Agenda. Please pick up your planner at Alumni House after the first day of school.Go Back to School for a Night
- Lower School Back to School Night and Parent Social. Join us on Thursday, September 12th from 6-9:00 pm to meet your student's teachers, learn about classroom routines and curriculum, and get to know our Lower School community. Parents are invited to stay and enjoy lite fare and beverages while getting to know other parents, courtesy of the Lower School APA.
- Middle School Back to School Night. On Thursday, September 19th from 7-9:30 pm, hear from Middle School Head Dan Keller and Head of School Doug Lagarde followed by a walk through a sample day from your student's schedule where you'll meet their teachers and see their classrooms.
- Upper School Back to School Night. On Thursday, September 26th from 7-9:30 pm, hear from Upper School Head Steve Soden, Head of School Doug Lagarde and others followed by a walk through a sample day from your student's schedule where you'll meet their teachers and see their classrooms.

The Admirals Parents’ Association hosts over 125 events, receptions, meetings, programs, workshops, and parent gatherings each year. As a current parent you are you are automatically a member of the APA, no membership fee is required! Get involved and take advantage of the unique chance to meet new friends, build a strong parent network, and support our students and faculty.Join us for our first 2019-2020 APA Meetings! Meet with Head of School Doug Lagarde, hear plans for the year from committee chairs, learn about opportunities to get involved, and meet other Severn parents over coffee and lite fare. All are welcome to share ideas for the year ahead!
