Student Academic Support Specialist (Long-term Substitute January-April)

Severn School seeks a long-term substitute for a Student Academic Support Specialist (Learning Specialist) position. We invite dynamic, and collaborative educators who are passionate about student support to apply for this position. Candidates should have the ability to inspire students and the willingness to participate fully in a student-centered learning environment.
Reporting to the acting Director of the Learning Resource Center, the temporary Student Academic Support Specialist will provide individual and small group instruction and organizational support to students.This individual will also serve as an advisor to 10 high school students and participate in other student-facing campus activities.
 
This temporary position begins in January 2023 and ends approximately on April 17, 2023. (The actual dates will be determined prior to hire.) 

The ideal candidate will possesses the following qualifications:
  • Training and proficiency in working with diverse learners
  • Experience working with secondary school students, in a school or educational setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a highly relational style of interacting with students
  • Evidence of professional development in neurodiversity and/or learning differences
  • Proficiency of use with technology tools that facilitate student task completion and organization; in particular, learning management systems and digital calendars and digital filing systems 
  • Enthusiasm to engage students in grades 6-12
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant field
