We are nearly one week away from exams in the middle school. If it feels a bit earlier, it is! As you know, after (one/two) years of reflection and research, the middle school decided to move exams from our typical time in June to May so that teachers and students may use the exams not only as a way to measure learning but also as a way to inform knowledge and skill gaps in each student with time to address those gaps before year’s end, so they may learn the class material best. Included in this timeline is time and commitment for each student to reflect on their study skills before the exams.*Please join Dan Keller, middle school head on May 4 at 6:00 pm to gain a better understanding of this intiative and to ask questions of the value of moving exams earlier in the year.

LS Family Fun Day
Location: ESJAC New GymWe are so excited to be holding the Lower School APA Family Fun Day on Saturday, May 7th on the Teel Campus! Family Fun Day has been split into two different events where every family can find something great to do!
The first event is an amazing outdoor carnival-like event which will be held at the Barbour Family Stadium & Henry and Nancy Barbour Field on the Teel Campus, with lots of fun and games, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
The second event is a kids' dance party with DJ, which will be held inside the Edward St. John Gymnasium from 6:00pm-8:00pm. -

Congratulations on making the decision to join the Severn community!
We know you have many questions about next year. In the coming months you will hear from us about student life, course selection, extra-curricular activities and everything Severn for the 22-23 school year. For now, we would like to invite all new 6th, 7th and 8th graders and parents to join us on May 12th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in Price Auditorium. At this meeting you will meet many of the adults who will play a vital role in your child’s Severn experience, including Middle School Head, Dan Keller, Middle School Dean of Students, Kathleen Donovan, Middle School Counselor, Mary Foard, and Middle School Registrar, Carrie Ball.While you should leave this meeting with a clear timeline of “next steps,” we really see this as an opportunity for incoming students and parents to meet each other and begin to form connections with other classmates and parents that will last throughout your family’s time at Severn—and beyond! Please plan to join us!
In addition, please plan on staying a few minutes after the session for a casual reception hosted by our Admiral Parents' Association. We will have several "seasoned" parents at the reception ready and willing to meet you, answer any of your questions, and help provide insight into daily life at Severn. We also will have a small pop-up shop of spiritwear and items from our school store, the Admirals Collection, available for sale in the Rotunda--go Admirals! We look forward to seeing you there! -

MS Musical, MATILDA JR., (student performance)
Location: PriceMatilda JR is the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers. The daughter of abusive parents, Matilda finds refuge in library books, which she reads quickly and in creating her own stories. Things are no better at school, where Matilda also must face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who believes in Crunchem Hall’s motto: “Bambinatum est Magitum,” or “Children are Maggots.” She finds companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey, who, though well-intentioned, is shy and fragile. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Matilda’s bravery teaches Miss Honey and her classmates an important lesson -- that even though life can be hard, “nobody but me is gonna change my story” so “sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.” -

Ascension of Bahá'u'lláh
Ascension of Bahá’u’lláh (May 28 or 29): Baha’is observe the anniversary of the death in exile of Bahá’u’lláh, the founder of the Baha’i Faith, on May 29, 1892, outside Akko (also known as Akka or Acre), in what is now northern Israel. It is one of the nine holy days of the year when work is suspended and children are exempted from attending school.
The Baháʼí Faith (/bəˈhɑːʔiː, bəˈhaɪ/; Persian: بهائی Bahāʼi) is a new religion[a] teaching the essential worth of all religions and the unity of all people.[b] Established by Baháʼu'lláh in the 19th century, it initially developed in Persia and parts of the Middle East, where it has faced ongoing persecution since its inception.[13] The religion is estimated to have over five million adherents, known as Baháʼís, spread throughout most of the world's countries and territories.[14] -
