2021-2022 COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols

As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our community continues to be our top priority. Following the latest guidelines from the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Maryland Department of Health, the 2021-2022 school year will begin with the following protocols and important guidelines outlined on this page.

Health Protocols

List of 6 items.

  • Masks

Masks are required for everyone in school buildings. Masks will be optional outside regardless of vaccination status.
  • Testing

    • It is important to get a baseline understanding of the virus within the Severn community at beginning of the year. To this end, all students and employees must get a PCR test between Monday, August 23 and Wednesday September 1
    • A negative result must be printed and brought to school on Wednesday, September 1 and given to:
      • advisors on 9/1, if the student is in Middle or Upper School.
      • faculty and staff at car line on 9/1, if your student is in the Lower School.
    • The test must be a PCR test by a medical professional at a testing facility/office.   No home test (regardless if it is a PCR or not) will be accepted.
  • Vaccination

    • At this time, we will not require a vaccination for those who are eligible.  This will likely change once the vaccines are fully approved.
    • If you are vaccinated, we ask that you provide proof of vaccination to the nurse on the Teel campus. This is very important so that we understand the percent of students currently vaccinated.  This information will inform our decision making going forward.
  • Quarantine

    • Quarantine protocols are set by the Department of Health and have changed from last year. In short, regardless of vaccination, a person identified as a close contact will likely not have to quarantine if both the contact person and infected person are masked. There are nuances and potential changes to these guidelines that our nurses will continue to monitor.
  • LiveSafe

    • To begin the year, we will not have families and students fill out the daily health check on the LiveSafe app. However, if we find students are coming to campus with symptoms associated with COVID, we will go back to requiring the daily health check. Please, if your child is experiencing symptoms keep your child home in order to protect our community.
    • Do not delete the LiveSafe app.  We will continue to use it for emergency broadcasts such as inclement weather announcements.
    • If your child will miss school, please use the respective email address to communicate with the school. The email will go to the appropriate people at Severn so they can follow up, if need be.
  • Visitors

Visitors will be allowed in the building on a limited basis - for instance, dropping materials off at the front desk or having a conferences with a teacher and other school personnel.
