  • College Counseling - The Admissions Game

    Location: Price Auditorium

Do you ever wonder who "gets in" and "why?" "The Admission Game" (TAG), presented by Peter Van Buskirk, former Dean of Admission at Franklin and Marshall College, takes you inside the admission process for the answers. TAG is a high energy, high impact, interactive, case study exercise for students and parents in which the audience is transformed into an admission committee. In a manner that is more theatre than lecture, Peter engages his audience immediately in a "conversation" by talking with them in relevant terms that help ease the stress of an otherwise frenzied process. This signature program reveals the "hidden agendas" of colleges and provides insight into how decisions are made. Students learn to find the colleges that fit them best and to make decisions that help them compete for admission.  All Upper School students and parents are invited. This event is in place of the College Admission Forum on Sunday, April 7.

  • MS ERB Testing

ERB (Educational Records Bureau) is a not-for-profit organization providing admission and achievement assessment as well as instructional services for PreK – Grade 12.

ERB conducts and assesses the Comprehensive Testing Program (CTP)  - a rigorous assessment in areas such as reading, listening, vocabulary, writing, science and mathematics, and verbal and quantitative reasoning.

The CTP helps compare content specific, curriculum-based performance to the more conceptual knowledge base found in reasoning tests.

Middle School ERB CTP testing will take place on:

         Wednesday, April 10 –8:00am-10:45am

         Friday, April 12 –8:00am-9:50am

All of the tests will be taken on the iPad, which must be on the latest version (Generation 4 should be 10.3.3 and iPad Air should be 12.1.4). All students will be asked to download the ERB CTP app during class. You may want to check your child’s iPad to insure it is there. The app includes several practice tests. We will do some of them at school, but practice at home is always a good idea.

Results will be mailed home with a letter from your child's advisor at the end of the school year. As always, it's advisable to make sure your student gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.

  • MS Understanding Exams Schedule with Dan Keller

    Location: Roche Lecture Hall
We are nearly one  month away from exams in the middle school. If it feels a bit earlier, it is! As you know, after (one/two) years of reflection and research, the middle school decided to move exams from our typical time in June to May so that teachers and students may use the exams not only as a way to measure learning but also as a way to inform knowledge and skill gaps in each student with time to address those gaps before year’s end, so they may learn the class material best. Included in this timeline is time and commitment for each student to reflect on their study skills before the exams.

*Please join Dan Keller, middle school head, and Laura Drossner, English department chair, on April 23 at 6:30 pm in Roche Lecture Hall (in Creeden Hall) to gain a better understanding of this intiative and to ask questions of the value of moving exams earlier in the year.
