Creative Connections is a true collaboration between youth, educators, community members and professional musicians, synergistically giving life to the idea of music making and the traditionally held views of teacher, performer and student. Creative Connections embraces the belief that we all learn and encounter life in unique ways and uses music to channel those differences into a beautiful shared experience for both participants and audience members alike. This collaboration with Creative Connections would bring students and guest artists together to create new material and explore their own creative expression. During the course of only two days original music will be created, rehearsed and performed using improvisation and group activities that develop both individual and collective identity.
Since its beginning in 2009, Creative Connections has worked with students, faculty and staff from all over the US and UK, and the impact of these collaborations has been felt in communities and organizations as diverse as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s OrchKids, Peabody Institute of Music, New England Conservatory, Georgia State University, El Sistema USA, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Clay Center for the Arts, Alexandria Symphony and Bass Hall. In its third annual Baltimore project, Creative Connections was named "Best Concert of 2012 by Baltimore City Magazine who also declared it, "The most ambitious and spirited show I've seen in a long time!"
