This year we created a new model to widen the scope of our reading. In the past, we have chosen by committee one or two books for students to read. This time, students selected books that interested them from 40 titles recommended by faculty. The fiction and non-fiction choices spanned all genres including action, mystery, memoir, popular, and not-so-well-known titles.
On Thursday, September 18th students and faculty met with others who read the same book for a spirited discussion and/or book related activity. The entire Upper School community then gathered to share our thoughts about the books we read. Students from each group offered presentations that ranged from dramatic interpretations to arguments as to why their book should or should not be considered as the focus for a future all school read. We were excited to have an opportunity to
explore so many books together and our reading lists have grown from it.
