Isaac Huang '16 Scores Big on Math Exam

kk

Hats off to junior Isaac Huang who recently earned a score of 99.0 on the AMC 12 math exam - part of an elective math competition.

his impressive achievement means that Isaac is now qualified to take the American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME). The AIME is the second exam in the series of exams used to challenge bright students on the path toward choosing the team that represents the United States at the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). While most AIME participants are high school students, some bright middle school students also qualify each year.

More than 54,000 students took the AMC 12 in February 2015, and less than 25% of those students qualified for the AIME.
The AMC 12 is a 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examination in secondary school mathematics containing problems which can be understood and solved with pre-calculus concepts.

The main purpose of the AMC 12 is to spur interest in mathematics and to develop talent through the excitement of solving challenging problems in a timed multiple-choice format. A special purpose of the AMC 12 is to help identify those few students with truly exceptional mathematics talent.

Students who are among the very best deserve some indication of how they stand relative to other students in the country and around the world. The AMC 12 provides one such indication, and it is the first in a series of examinations.

The AMC 12 is one in a series of examinations (followed in the United States by the American Invitational Examination and the USA Mathematical Olympiad) that culminate in participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad, the most prestigious and difficult secondary mathematics examination in the world. In this way the very best young mathematicians are recognized, encouraged and developed.

High scoring AIME students are invited to take the prestigious United States of America Mathematics Olympiad (USAMO).
