The 5 Upper School sections of U.S History re-enacted D-Day on Hatton Beach (at 6:30 a.m.!) earlier this week. Mr. Tom Sitzmann's students played the role of the meteorologists who briefed Eisenhower (played by Mr. Howes - you'll note he's 'bald' in the photos!) before the attack. Mr. Chris Howes' students played the role of the Germans who had to dig in to the shore. Ms. Renie Sotiropoulos' had some students acting as the 101st Airborne Division who parachuted and glided in 5 hours before the landing; one class were the troops who landed on Omaha Beach; and another class was the troops who landed at Utah. "The students studied the plan in class, and were able to bring it to life," said Ms. Sot. "The value for me in this event was really set before the re-enactment began," commented Mr. Sitzmann. "Students had the opportunity to step out of the fast-moving course and really look at an event in depth. The final 'play' was just a nice fulfillment of what the students had already learned."
