Severn’s Water Street Players Proudly Present INTO THE WOODS

The Water Street Players are proud to present INTO THE WOODS, Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning take on everyone's favorite storybook characters.
The musical runs from February 22-24 in Price Auditorium. Showtime is 7 p.m. each night. Tickets are available here.

Featuring a score that is both enchanting and touching, INTO THE WOODS brings beloved storybook characters together for a timeless piece that is also a rare modern classic.

The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

Between the show’s cast and crew, nearly 40 Severn students are involved in bringing INTO THE WOODS to the stage. Dr. Elizabeth Patterson, Director of the Water Street Players, nods to all the young artists working so hard to bring this show to life at Severn School. "The songs and the stories woven together on our journey INTO THE WOODS have called on performers and technicians alike to take a deep breath and engage in a powerful way with this rich, challenging musical that is considered to be one of Sondheim’s masterpieces,” she said. “We hope everyone will join us on the journey, coming INTO THE WOODS with us!”

One of Sondheim's most popular works, INTO THE WOODS is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. The production is based on the book by James Lapine and is being produced by the Water Street Players with special permission from Music Theatre International.
