Severn’s Water Street Players Proudly Present THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

The comedic performance is a play within a play, as the members of the fictional Cornley Drama Society attempt to deliver their performance of the mid-century style murder mystery, “The Murder at Haversham Manor.” What the audience sees, however, are the many disasters, miscues and other mistakes that happen to – or because of – the cast. Sticking doors, falling props, an actor knocked unconscious (and a replacement who refuses to yield when said actor returns) are just a few of the things that go wrong while the cast valiantly attempts to continue on with the show.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG runs November 16-18, with one show daily in Price Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are available here.

In order to pull off the style of highly physical and stylized comedy featured in THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, the on-stage cast have learned how to do strikes, slaps, hair pulls, falls, spit takes, and other physical stunts. Behind the scenes, the crew learned how to build and operate an elaborate and sophisticated set filled with tricks that get used by the actors on stage and behind-the-scenes. In all, nearly 20 Severn students are contributing to the production, which was cast in early September.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG is written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, and is produced by special permission from Dramatists Play Service. Premiering in 2012, THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG quickly became a staple of West End London’s theatre scene.  It is now widely produced in theaters large and small all across the United States as well as the United Kingdom, Australia, and beyond.
