Lower School Pajama Day

Chesapeake Campus
Last year, caring classrooms across the country donated almost 130,000 pairs of pajamas and Scholastic Book Clubs matched every single pair with a new book. This year, Scholastic Book Clubs and the nonprofit Pajama Program have joined forces again to bring us The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive.
The mission of this drive is to provide over 200,000 children in need brand-new pajamas and books—these are children who live in group homes, shelters, foster care, and orphanages. Severn School’s donations will go to Sarah’s House in Fort George Meade.
Sarah’s House provides emergency shelter for as many as 66 people and transitional housing for 22 families. As a supportive housing program for homeless families, Sarah’s House is much more than just a safe place to sleep. Its goal is to effect positive change in the families they serve by providing parenting classes and workshops, employment programs, licensed childcare, counseling, and transportation, all aimed at assisting their guests to achieve independence and strengthen their families.
PAJAMA DAY is planned at the Lower School on Monday, December 19th.On this day, all students are invited to dress in pajamas or dress down attire.  Any families who wish to make an optional donation may send in a new pair of pajamas (one per family) or $2.00 per child. For each pair of pajamas donated by Severn School to Sarah’s House, Scholastic will match it and donate a brand new book!
Here are some simple guidelines for the donated pajamas:
  • Pajamas must be brand-new.
  • Pajamas in all sizes are needed—from newborn to adult.
  • Pajamas must be in complete sets or nightgowns.
  • Pajamas in children’s sizes must be manufactured as pajamas— this ensures that they are flame-retardant and safe.
Thank you for helping us share the gift of a good night’s sleep and a sweet bedtime story.
