Letter from a Severn Summer Camp Mom
Belonging. Creativity. Fun. These three words are at the heart of what makes Summer Camp at Severn so special. Each session offers something different in terms of the activities we do, but every single camp is a place where kids can make friends, try something new, have a ton of fun and learn along the way. And from the first time they walk in the door until the last day of camp when we say our goodbyes, they come to realize that they are part of a greater community; that they really are a part of our Severn family. We asked one family to share their experience with us to get the parent perspective on Severn Summer Camps.
I’m writing to let you know about the experience my two sons Andrew and Matthew had at Severn Camp and its wonderful lasting effect on our family. The focus on real-life skills seemed a perfect fit for my kids and it was delightful.
The boys have both used lessons learned at camp at home and school. Besides the skills that they walked away with, they acquired a sense of place at Severn Camp. They bonded with the other kids and the staff (there were tears upon our departure last Friday). Whatever your teachers and counselors did, it fostered a sense of belonging.
I was so impressed when they came home each day and discussed how much fun they had. Even Andrew's “confidence” had increased, I was speechless. The boys were tickled with the experience of the passport — they relayed funny and amusing stories about traveling to the various countries each day.
Thank you so much for affording my kids the opportunity to learn practical skills and experiences that they would not have been afforded if it was not for Mrs. Wach's kindness.
