  • 7th Grade Overnight Trip to Tuckahoe State Park

The Class of 2021 will enjoy an overnight camping experience at Tuckahoe State Park in Queen Anne, Maryland. During their stay at Tuckahoe, students will have an opportunity to participate in fishing, canoeing, hiking, campfire cooking, a ropes course, and related outdoor activities.

There are two goals for this trip: The first is to provide an opportunity for the students to have a first-hand, outdoor experience. The second goal, and no less important, is to have the students pull together and work as a team to carry out as many aspects of the on site, camping experience as possible.

The only electronic device the students should bring is a flashlight. Cell phones, computers, ipads, and ipods should be left at home or locked in their gym or school locker. Teachers will have cell phones on site, so students will be able to communicate with their parents, if they need to do so.

Students should be able to easily carry all of their personal gear, (not counting tent and sleeping bag), in two, “school sized” back packs, or in a single, equivalent sized bag. Extra large, sports equipment sized bags, or rolling coolers, are not needed for a 30 hour camping trip. Campers who want to go fishing are encouraged to bring fishing gear.

Busses are scheduled to depart on Thursday, May 5th, at approximately 8:15a and return on Friday, May 6th, around 2:00p.

This trip was planned by Mr. Jim Maloney, the Middle School’s Outdoor Education Coordinator. The Outdoor Education program was developed to help our Middle School students learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and to understand the importance of preserving natural environments. The Middle School is dedicated to developing students into good stewards of the environment and providing them with opportunities for direct, first-hand, experience in the outdoors.

  • The Little Mermaid Musical - presented by 4th & 5th Graders

    Location: Chesapeake Campus
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages.

With music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl," and "Part of Your World."

Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above and bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

Disney's The Little Mermaid offers a fantastic creative opportunity for rich costumes and sets, and the chance to perform some of the best-known songs from the past 30 years.

  • US Boardwalk Blast

The APA's After Hours Committee invites all Upper Schoolers and faculty/staff to the 9th annual Boardwalk Blast after school on Friday, May 27, from 2:30 until 4:00 on the Boone House lawn.

Students will kick back, relax, and enjoy some time on the Boardwalk before hitting the books to study for finals. They will enjoy exciting inflatable obstacle courses, snow cones, nachos, and many other games. This event is FREE and is for Upper School students ONLY.

Parents, we could use a few more volunteers to help out the day of the event. We are also looking for parents of current freshmen and sophomores to become involved going forward---please consider coming to help to see what is involved. It’s a great afternoon for all involved! Please contact Kristie Lilly if you'd like to lend a hand.

  • Senior Fellows Presentations

This year's Severn Fellows presentations are set for Tuesday, May 31 at 7:30p in Price Auditorium. This is a must-see event and everyone's welcome!

Initiated for the 2008-2009 school year, the Severn Fellows program invites a select group of Severn School seniors to transcend the academic program and develop a year-long intellectual pursuit that reflects their growing passions. Students are encouraged to demonstrate their ability to synthesize ideas and to create new fields of inquiry in the application of several skills and knowledge bases that they have developed in their time at Severn.

The Fellows are selected through an application process in the spring of their junior year and work on their projects throughout their senior year. They work with a mentor, often from outside Severn School, who is familiar with their field of inquiry. At the end of the year, they present their work to the Severn community.

Severn Fellows enter into this experience with the understanding that their project will receive neither a grade nor academic credit; they explore their passions in the purest of regards and know that the most satisfying reward comes in meeting goals and in knowing that they have done something well. The presentations at the end of the Fellows year, then, simply represent the belief that knowledge and experience once gained, should be celebrated and shared.
