JHU Professor Advises English Department
by Tom Worthington, Upper School English Department Chair
On May 7, Severnís English teachers enjoyed a visit by Johns Hopkins University Professor Tristan Davies, author of Cake, a collection of short stories, and teacher of fiction. Professor Davies sat in on classes and met with English teachers to discuss curriculum development and writing instruction. Responding to a list of questions generated by Severn teachers, Professor Davies, winner of the JHU Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching, offered valuable insights into preparing students for the academic challenges presented by colleges and universities. His reaction to Severnís English program was complimentary, and the day was a great success. Our productive dialogue with Professor Davies that began on the 7th will continue online as we further our discussion of twenty-first century teaching.
