Rising Freshmen Meet with Upper Classmen
by Emily Kraynak '08, Communications Office Intern
The transition from Middle School to high school can be a daunting task, even if one is making the transition in the same school. With schedule changes, class changes, and new friends it is easy for one to become intimidated. That is where the current Upper School students come in. Earlier this week current Severn eighth grade students met with Severn’s Upper School student council members, new prefects, and sophomore peer counselors to discuss their fears, schedules, and any other questions that they had. Mrs. Toni Michelson, an Upper School Counselor, says “The purpose of the 8th Grade/Student Leader get together is to give the rising freshman the opportunity to meet with Upper School students in a relaxed and friendly setting.” Along with Upper School student leaders, rising freshmen also met the new Dean of Students Mr. Lenham; the Senior Dean Mr. Witzel; Study Skills Director Mrs. Jackson; Academic Dean Mr. Turner, and the Upper School Counselors, Mrs. Franey and Mrs. Michelson
